Lady across the street lost about half her honey locust. Base was hollow and rotten. She’s having the rest dropped next week. IMG_2243.jpeg IMG_2242.jpeg IMG_2244.jpeg IMG_2241.jpeg

Brought home four loads of smaller stuff and split it at the house. Drug the splitter over for the bigger stuff and got three loads split there. Most of it was in decent shape everything around the trunk was to far gone. IMG_2245.jpeg IMG_2251.jpeg IMG_2255.jpeg IMG_2256.jpeg IMG_2262.jpeg Ended up with a decent size pile of splits. Already had a small pile of ash, silver maple, and pine, that I added onto. Ran out of time and wheeled a few rounds home.

It's amazing how chewed out the center is.

Still lots of wood for you, without dealing with the trunk.

Will you return when they have dropped the rest?

Sure like seeing the old trucks out there working. I just sold my'79 Ford 4x4. Shopping around for a 3/4 ton.

That’s a nice score, it will make great firewood. It’s nice not having to deal with all that rot in the trunk.

In about 3 years that will be ready to burn. I love the heat that Honey Locust puts off but in my experience it’s right there with oak on drying time.

Is interior rot common in HL like that. In the threads I've seen here I don't recall seeing any like it. Never have seen it around here, not that I get a lot of HL.

We took down 11 of them on 1 property last winter at work. About 5 of them had various amounts of core rot. I think only 2 of these looked dead in the previous summer if I remember correctly

Thanks. It’s by far the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned. Plus it’s a lot lower then the newer pickups.

I figure I’m about 3-4 years ahead right now so it’ll be right on time.

I don’t get much locust so I can’t say. I’ve cleaned plenty of dropped branches from it. It looked to be in decent shape. Never had any idea it was hollow inside.

Nice work. I would take that old Chevy over any new "truck" they make today.
