I always have duct tape and paper towels when I saw. Don't laugh, I have personally and have seen some nasty injuries patched with those two things. Even without the towels tape and your clothes can really help. Can be used as a tourniquet with a stick ect.
Pretty ugly for sure and pretty lucky as well. Hopefully he'll recover with minimal nerve and muscle damage. As we all know $hit can go south in a second. A moment of not paying attention, a wrong step, etc... can lead to a bad day. I'm sure we've all been there where we've created or been in a situation and an accident could of easily been had, but luckily we got out of it safely. Then you stop and take a breath and think, whoa..WTH was I doing.
Thank you for this post , I like to be prepared. My Amazon delivery will be here tomorrow. There is not much room left in the box on the tractor but I will find a spot.
I believe that was from back when quick clot was a powder that your poured into/onto the wound....hence why they put it into the gauze/dressing. Now that they don't have to cut, scrape and /or clean it out of the wound, I don't think it's as bad. Could be wrong though.... Cash Larue ?
You are correct. The quick clot gauze when used in a life saving manner will cause less harm than exsanguinating next to your woodpile. We utilize the quick clot gauze at work fairly frequently. You don’t want to use it on minor wounds, because it can be uncomfortable to remove. You only want to use it on severe bleeding. We pack open wounds with it at work, as opposed to wrapping in a traditional gauze manner. You never want to pack an open chest or abdominal wall injury, as the gauze can get entwined in vital organs and cause a real problem. We use it mostly to pack large open wounds in muscular areas - with heavy bleeding. A good example would be a deep puncture, blast, or gunshot wound to a large muscular area (arms, shoulders, legs, butt etc.). It would be totally appropriate to use the quick clot gauze on a deep chainsaw wound with profuse bleeding.
Hey when I gotta go, I gotta go! Sorry Cash, first time I've heard that word. Makes perfect sense when I looked it up. Do you guys have an EMT spelling bee?
Ha ha. It’s a good one. When I’m making my call in to the receiving trauma center, I try to use medical terminology. The docs tend to take the paramedics more seriously if it sounds like they know what they are talking about.
I don't play scrabble, but for some.reason my thought was "Dam I bet that'd get a lot of points!" I play with fire in the bushes, so I don't know what he said...but it does sound bad!
I don't leave the house without a first aid kit and plenty of tourniquets. I have them stored everywhere I am frequently. They WILL save your life if you have one.......and practice using them on yourself and others.
