So.. last week we had some very heavy winds, and came home to find a busted pine in the lower drive.

Cleaning that up today, I notice a much more precarious issue.. another broken leader in another pine.

Not an easy situation.. Can't drop either tree without being vulnerable to that leader dropping.

    Any advice??

    Anyone got any dynamite?

Seems like the perfect opportunity to figure out how to utilize (build, if you don't have) a potato gun here...maybe drill a potato, run a 1/4" rope through it...I think you get the idea...git-r-dun (and video!) :D

That sure does suck. My only go to is a grapple hook I've had since my teens. If I can't throw it high enough, I'm dead in the water. Can you put some weights on a fishing rod and zing it up in there, then use that to feed a bigger line?

Mother nature will take care of that but she may be slow.

Go to local sporting goods store and buy a cheap kids bow. Tie string to arrow, tie string to rope.

I'd either wait it out or send a couple boxes of 3.5" BB shot up there and see if you can break up the branches a little bit. I doubt that would work, but it would definitely be fun.

Yikes, that looks pretty high up. If you can get a rope on it safely I'd leave it. Stay safe whatever you decide.

My math usually involves the cost of buying a tool versus paying someone else to do the job. I bought the Big Shot to get a line in an oak tree that was overhanging the house so I could safely get the tree on the ground. I don’t think the local tree services would have touched that tree without bringing a crane on site. So the costs would have been astronomical. I may never use the big shot again. Or I may. Having it saved me some $$$$ and potentially a big headache. In this pic you can see the 3/4” line high up in the tree. Another option to get a line up there is to use a surf casting fishing pole with a small weight on the end of the line. I have used a small socket in the past to get a line over my roof.

Hard to see the rope if the tree is already on the ground. This one is a little better.

Winds been whipping all day here. Had to delay a wood score because of it.

Glad to see your situation resolved itself.
