    Tree is in MD
    It appeared to be standing dead.
    The bark is a bit deceiving. I think some of the distinguishing features weathered/flaked off?

    I'm saving the pic of the trunk until tomorrow. It still has some of the tell-tale signs on the bark. You guys will get it then... Unless someone gets it tonight.

    If you look closely at the bark in these pics you can see some of the "fish scale" bark that hasn't worn off yet.

    You certain you know what it is? I really really think it's beech. You looking for a specific variety? European (common) beech?

    Bark is deceiving because it is dead and weathered.
    Give me ten min and I'll post a pic of a healthy one in my yard.
