Thought yall would like to see some central AR deer. Now mind you yall northern fellows have bigger deer these are decent for around here. Tonight on the way home from my dad's (bout 35 minutes away) I seen over 25. One still had horns and was way bigger than anything I have on the wall.
Those are very nice mounts! It is interesting to look at deer antlers from other regions. We have most of ours tacked up in the entry room at the cabin where we have our deer camp in Northern MN. We had a lot of nice deer in the last boom cycle through the late 80s to about 2017, then the population crashed so that it is hard now to even find deer sign. We have some big bodied deer to survive the northern winters, but the antlers lag other regions. The MN state record is a deer that weighted dressed out at 402lb. It is really more moose country, and used to be good woodland caribou habitat before the white pine logging beginning in the early 1900s, then the whitetail moved in from further south in the state. The last recording of caribou sightings in our area was in the early 1980s. Our deer population cycle is based on the boom and bust of our wolf population. It will be a few years before deer are relatively prevalent again as the wolves struggle.
I would love to hunt the northern states just to see the difference in deer. Of course a moose would be icing on the cake.
Those are some good AR deer! I love that euro on the left in the 2nd pic Got my oct archery buck back a few weeks ago. This buck had a some type off injury in the past that caused his right side base to be lower than the other. My taxidermist said he also had another small tine growing from that same base but under the skin! Thought that was pretty cool.
I got that one putting out hay on the farm when my dad was sick a couple years ago. He was standing by the pond at about 200 yards. Ol '06 barked, he fell, and I finished haying then went and got him with the tractor. We have a lot of lopsided bucks here.
Very nice. Carries his mass all the way out. We have some great deer here, but never see many with a lot of mass. Now over in the eastern part of the state and down in the delta they have mass.
