    I was just "looking" but brought home Siberian Elm and Maple? Could someone ID the maple(ish) wood?

    That small stuff doesn’t look like maple to me. Maybe some hybrid poplar?

    Immature/small trees are super hard to id. Usually the bark changes drastically as they mature/age.

    Edit: i guess i should've said to id by bark. Obviously leaves always make the game a little easier.

    Silver Maple looks pretty smooth when it's young. Gets the shaggy, scaly look to its bark as it grows. Same with Honey Locust. My best bet would be Silver Maple.
