Saw this about a month ago. Finally got around to verifying. My app shows it as Shag Bark. But the base looks different than the top. Either way, I’m trying to get permission to get it.

Either shagbark or possibly shellbark. It should make good firewood regardless

Could very well be. heartwood color looks typical Usually the base has the shaggiest bark. Cant say ive see a shellbark as Eric mentioned. Either way i'd be camped out to get it. Rare tree in your area Kevin?

Hopefully it will be yours and start 2024 out on a good note for you.

A rare to get access to one… BBQ people usually get it & those that know it. But in the location, I’m doubtful that anyone has noticed it or location has stopped anyone from it…

I could agree with that...they seem to get "shaggier" as they age

Limbs are usually smoother than the trunk on a shagbark . Looks like a shagbark from here.

I'm not certain which type of hickory, but I am certain you should grab it all.

Finally…. Looking like probably Saturday morning, I’ll be attempting to getting it out… with narrow 2 lane road and limited parking spots… will be the best / safest time minus Sunday morning…
