This is it folks. The last GTG at the Backwoods Savage's home in Central MI. It will be held the week ending May 4. This will also be the latest we've ever had one but I've asked many of the regulars their opinion on dates and this is the one they chose.

We are hoping for warm and sunny weather and a happy crowd. The main activities will be on Friday and Saturday but there will be several come early and everybody is welcome to come when they can. We have a camping area. There aren't many motels in the area but by moving the date we should not be competing with another group for motel rooms. If there is room you are welcome to sleep in the house but you will be roughing it a bit. I'll try to not roast everybody out if we have to have a fire in the stove. lol Bring a sleeping bag or blanket, pillow or whatever.

Generally we try to go to a neighbor's place late Friday morning to cut and split his wood. He will have logs stacked by his OWB and that is a fun time. We'll also do some cutting here on our place and/or across the road as we've done the past few years.

Please, if you plan on coming to our final GTG, let me know ahead of time for planning purposes.

Sounds like a good time to be had and soybean seed season will be over.

I wonder if the Badger will be running by then.

Its on our calendar, gonna try like heck to make it!
I think I'll borrow one of those Mingo Markers from someone and see if I can give a subtle reminder to these guys/gals how to cut at 16"...since you are not feeding an OWB, and don't prefer to recut stuff! ;) :hair: :handshake:

There won't be much planting done by then. Also beets, oats and corn goes in first normally. A lot of soys get planted in June around here.

Good idea Dave. One year I gave out some markers and might do that again.

Depending on which pair of shoes you wear, I'd say 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Many moons ago I spent a couple years at Plymouth and it seems like that was close to a 3 hour drive. I used to take 131 up to 94 then east to 69. Then 27 to M-57 then east.

dirtdevil might have an even better idea on time and miles.

The job I’m doing now, we are hauling the soybeans that were grown last year back to company like Monsanto, Remington, and Bayer who then clean it, bag it, and sell it to all the farmers in the region for the crops that go to market.

we can’t haul it in until the crops are harvested from last year and it all has to be hauled in before end of March so it can be sold in April as seed for planting.

Some of it of it is being cleaned this week, and next week it’s planted in South America where then companies can now get two growing seasons in one 12 month period.

I think Monsanto has gotten rich from fines when farmers held back seed and planted it the following year...
