Friend of my dads had this oak fell in his dog run. Put a 28” blade on the SCarr394 and let er eat. The two base rounds were 30-32”. Nice chunk of wood! According to times of pics, noodling took 30 minutes. 2 base rounds were already bucked at a length too long for use, so I cut em in 1/2. Sure is nice to back right up to the wood. Will go back tomorrow for the rest. Dad was pooped.
Very nice Jason. The last time I cut one of that diameter it was with a 16" bar! Got the job done but you know I don't noodle.
Right up your alley thats for sure. How often does the big saw come out to play? Rain held off for you too.
We were planning for 9a but it rained out till about 11:30 so we started at 1p. The big hoss comes out for anything larger than the 28" bar, OR if I wanna get the job done quicker. I think I went through 3 tanks sawing it up. She's thirsty for sure but it's like a locomotive, it plows through the wood fast. Luckily I didn't hit stone/dirt and didn't have to swap chain.
That was a nice tree. Excellent work, my friend, even with a Husky... JK... Looks like it really ate the wood up.
Instead of noodling into 1/4’s, we took dads maul and sledge. Ended up putting a helper cut in them first. Didn’t want to break his or my back today. Pretty nice trailer load! 3 rows of 1/2’s and 1/4’s.
Smart move. Even quartered those suckers are heavy. Plus oak splits easily. Im not ashamed to section up rounds anymore.
Whole lotta nice easy splittin wood there. All the hard work is done. Now ya just gotta tap em with a butter knife
Took my splitter to dads about a week ago and he sure did make progress on the black oak. He told me it was the best wood he’s ever split. I helped him split about a dozen 1/4’s before moving on to the pin oak rounds. After he gets it stacked, we’ll see how much it was. I’m thinking a cord or just a bit more. He really likes having wood in 1/4’s, makes it easy on him.
His love of being outdoors rubbed off on me and the firewood thing is something we can do together. Pretty grateful for that.
If we get back to his place for more wood, I'll ask. Dad and I wondered how that happened. I figured they had to remove the fence. There was no wood on the other side.
