For awhile, not forever, calm down :)
I have four more cords sold to get out, for now. That should leave a couple left in the first pen. The orders I got have been shrunk. Either they hate my wood or my cords are bigger than they’re used to.
Then I gotta load the three houses. See where that leaves me. A lotta shoulder wood we gonna be burning this year. And the locust is ready after three years too.
BTW the window weights you gave me are doing a great job so far. Much better than the hard rubber bungee cords I used originally. If you ever find more…..I’m your guy :)

I hear ya. Sometimes my 25 ton struggles with a single wedge. Box wedge, forget it on gnarly stuff. No sense in struggling, especially if you don't have to. I'll bet the straight sections of that sugar maple will be alright, but you might end up pitching the crotch sections into the woods if you don't feel like messing with them. Sugar maple splits worse with age, so if it was me I'd split it immediately after bucking it. Learned the hard way on that before :picard:

HUH! Ive never had a problem with older SM rounds. Crack easier IME. Of course in recent times they dont sit in the round too long.

Good to know. When all my ducks are in line everything gets split within hours after bucking. It’s just a work saver, maybe not the fastest. Cut four or five good logs next to the splitter then split em. Saves walking away and rolling rounds to the splitter.
Was chatting with the landlord. He even offered to send me men to move the branches :) Had to tell him there will be wood there when I’m done. I’m not taking scraps and branches etc. I process veneer grade logs LOL
When I’m done and everything gets chipped he can make another FB post and have you’re more a average Ct chainsaw owner come in. It’s too dangerous an environment for just anybody with a saw at the moment. You know the kooks FB attracts,,,,,,, ,who me?

Glad the weights are working out. and ill keep that in mind. Can you tie rope around a brick with holes and serve the same purpose?

I dunno man, back in late 2020 I had a pile of large SM rounds that sat for 6 months before I tried busting them into quarters, and the maul just bounced off them. They all went through the splitter in the vertical position. I suppose if I tried your trick of standing them on end, on the wet ground first it could've helped.

Could, not as heavy. Some folks put screw eyes into decent size splits and use those. I’ve had the screw eyes on my ATV for over a year. Never tired em, most are probably scattered in the woods by now.

in reality it’s probably not. But wait till you see the prize at the bottom of the Cracker Jack box. :)
I’d guesstimate there’s at least 90 running feet of large straight lumber quality Black locust logs under there. My have to rethink new decking for the house.
Why they stacked the little ones and left the big straight trunks buried I’ll never know.
I made a good dent in getting to the bottom yesterday. Almost ready to start yanking them out. The biggest is way in the back tho. Not buried but it’s a long pull over whatever crap is in my way. You can just see the top of it in this photo. I didn’t walk back there. Gotta be 20-24” x 30 feet long. There’s at least two more 16” x 30’ feet also. At least.

Heck yeah that’s worth it. Heads up too, if you end up building a deck from BL and need more saw logs, I have permission to cut as much as I want from behind the Dollar General in Bristol.

Now I jus gotta recover from whatever infliction I got. Me thinks it’s the Lyme again. That’s where the light sensitivity started and never fully ended. Just took a walk outside with sunglasses on and within 10 minutes I was back in the house.

Think about it. A Tick is as close to a vampire as you can get. :)
Ever since I’ve had light sensitivity, I’m awake all night and sleep during the day and I’m happiest when it’s 55 in the house. I am the vampire :)

    Not a bad idea.
FWIW folks the ridge beam rope I used snapped already. November 29th 2022. Cheap 1/2” polypropylene white braided rope from Home Depot. That’s crazy bad. I built one of these in the early 90’s for lumber using 1/2” cotton rope that had been laying in the barn for who knows how long. Lumber long gone I never took the rope down. Was about four years ago I finally went up there and cut it off. :)
Don’t expect much from Home Depot rope.
