So.. as the host of one of my favorite YT channels says..
"This is gonna take a while, so grab a drink and a snack."

Had a "Celebration of Life" ceremony/gathering for Jill yesterday.

All of her boys made it in from Iowa and Colorado.

    Sooo..
Thursday I mowed roadside berms for parking.. one side of the road is ditch.. VERY close to the road edge.. as I didn't want anyone parked IN the ditch I pounded in T-posts and strung caution tape.

Well.. Friday AM I'm sitting out front having coffee & a smoke.. 8 AM the highway dept truck rolls up slowly.. I go to talk.. he says they got a complaint of a "fence being put up on the road"
    ????????
    :picard:

So I explain the reasoning.. he agrees he doesn't want vehicles parked in the ditch.. and that the 5 T-posts and caution tape is most definitely NOT a fence.

So, then later the port-o-john arrives.. and later my brother in law and best friend show up to help organize the polebarn and put up the 10x20 canopy.

Then me and best friend head over to his in-laws for tables and chairs.. while BIL stays at the house awaiting to pay on my fuel oil delivery.
    :makeitrain"

We decide to each drive our trucks to make sure we can get everything.. I get on the highway and not a couple minutes later the truck starts losing power, and starts blowing codes like a meth-head spitting out teeth.
    :hair::hair::hair:

Tried limping it along.. It gives it up and he tows me the rest of the way.

Park the truck in their field/yard, get the gear and come back. Get thing set up and have a couple of brews.

Then get a delivery, got that squared away, and resume liquid refreshments.

It's now dark..and then this blue Chrysler mini van rolls up the driveway like they own the place and parks short of the polebarn and sits there.
    o_O

I approach the vehicle and the driver rolls down the passenger window.. occupants are 2 young men of African American persuasion.. I'm all.. "Umm.. can I help you?"... driver says "I think I took a wrong turn." I'm all.. "Well, your in my driveway, so I'd tend to agree."

They back down the drive and leave, but it sure felt sketchy after the delivery of the new equipment.

Jill's middle son and wife showed up later, and I enjoyed some refreshments with them.

Meanwhile, I have 3 pork butts on the smoker for pulled pork.. Only had them on the smoker for 6.5 hours, then into the oven on low overnight.

Of course the house smelled delightful.

Only took one pic.. this one had the least bark.. But it was great.

Saturday was busy as all get out.. but a great turnout, and everyone shared memories of Jill.

Today was cleanup, and towed the truck to my mechanic so he can figure out what is up.

Best friend and I think it might be the catalytic converter.. but it remains to be seen.

Back to the rental car company.

First I’m hearing of this. Had to go back through and saw the news in the Thoughts and Prayers thread from a couple weeks ago. Sorry for your loss Chaz. I’m happy to hear it was a good turnout for celebrating Jill’s life, in spite of the unwanted vehicle problems and unneeded extra stressors.

RIP in peace Jill. We'll not forget you.

Sounds like you had quite a weekend Chaz. Hope the truck gets running again and not too much $ to fix it.

I can’t imagine losing my partner, the title of the thread made me think of this song.

I don't care who it is a random car in the driveway is creepy!
Years ago my neighbors gf mistook my driveway for his, I shined a light at the car...she flashed her lights back, i opened the door to tell them "wrong house!" And that's when he started yelling to her wrong house!

    Sorry for your loss.

There are many lowlifes out there that will obtain info about any type of function that would require a resident to be away form their dwelling. Then, with that info, it is seized as an opportunity to burglarize a residence without the risk of anyone being there.
