My bro is into firewood. He told me last week that he knicked his knee last time bucking logs. Said the saw caught hold of his pants as it was spooling down. Sounds familiar. Before I could ask, he said a buddy of his got him a pair of chaps. Wears them every time now. Smart(er) guy... :saw:

I just picked up a hard hat last week off Amazon. I have a lot of dead standing ash to take down this fall, and I want to help protect myself from branches falling on my noggin.

After reading all the accident stories on this forum, the tipping point being Scotty's story sometime back, I finally picked up a pair of Labonville chaps from TreeStuff a few months ago to go along w/my ear protection face-shield, boots and gloves. Better safe than having to deal with "that one time"...

Don't skimp on the PPE lads, it's like riding a motorcycle. If your head is worth $20, you wrap it in a $20. helmet...............

I picked up the Forrester chaps that were on sale at Menards last year. I always wore hearing protection and eye protection, but never gave much thought to chaps, even with a few close calls. Someone here posted a comment along the lines of "a set of chaps cost a lot less than a copay at the emergency room and are a lot cheaper than a new leg." Or something to that effect. I bought a set not long after that and I've worn them every time I've cut ever since.

I'm not captain safety but I need to get some ppe. I don't wanna look like a stihl action figure but I need some chaps and headgear.

I got the full wrap Husqvarna chaps last fall and love them. I thought I would hate wearing them, but it really doesn't phase me. The full wrap is nice for wading though brush and thicket.

I got my first pair of chaps the other week, Labonville full wraps from Treestuff. I like them, didn't really notice wearing them except sometimes the belt would ride up over my pants belt. Not so much when sawing but if I was splitting some pieces or picking them up to load or move. I figure I can deal with that, better than cutting into my leg.

I wear a hard hat when felling and glasses and ear protection any time I run saws. Chaps occasionally. They're just not comfortable and if I'm falling trees and there's brush and stuff around I would rather be able to run faster than protect my legs. Limbing is when you'll more than likely get bit by the saw. You're making tons of small cuts and moving. Use he chain brake some and pay attention to the bar tip. Like Dave said your brain is the most important PPE.

The hard hat will give you some credibility if your going for a hat trick scrounge. But you didn't hear that from me!

Edit: I'm not talking theft here. Just avoiding certain unpleasant conversations with a Nosy Nelly.

If I could like this 100 times I would. Great piece of advice to any newbies out there, and a good reminder to the veterans.
