Spring/summer plans to recover from last years drought involves
2 plus miles electric fence all will be 3-5 wires with driven pipe corners
    Bury 4000 feet water line
Install 5 new livestock water tanks
Spray a couple pastures for weeds
Kill out a couple pastures for renovation, no till plant cool season annual, warm season annuals and warm season perennials depending on timing and forage needs
    Fertilize and lime

Put in vegetable garden (I failed to do fall cover crop so more work this summer)

Key employee going from full time to part time in June = more work for me

Remodeling closets and basement, more insulation throughout the house

Repair/replace the lower unit on my boat motor I tore up when I hit a rock

Pond needs some fish cover installed and restocked

Cut down 2-3 24” plus diameter oaks that are dead

Put in permanent corrals and working pens for the cows

Lawn guy for the office was totally unreliable last year either going to find someone else or buy a mower and hire my son. He has been mowing at the house the last two years and doing a real good job.

Yep sounds like I’m going to be hiring help this summer!

Actually my 15 year old son is very motivated by money, but he needs immediate gratification IE paid daily.

What is this free time thing you speak of?

No problem, it’s always good to brag on kids who want to work. Bought a mower last night for him to use at the office, residential grade John Deere mower with 32 hours on it. Not as nice as my older commercial mower I use at home but still well worth what I paid for it. I’ll use it for a couple years or until I find a good used commercial mower worth the money. Residential grade stuff I use until I find something better, commercial equipment if I like it, I keep pretty much forever!

Process and stack all the huge DFir rounds in the wood yard. Rush out and snag any wood score that presents itself after CSS existing rounds. Clean and de-moss the roof and gutters. Pressure wash and stain Decks. Pressure wash and seal exposed aggregate parking pad. Clean, run out and gear up the boat for fishing season starting May Day. Fish fish fish for 6 weeks! Prosecute any metal cut orders as they come in. May sneak in a High Country fishing trip or two after the lakes clear of ice.

    Update on my summer agenda

Spring/summer plans to recover from last years drought involves — drought this year was just as bad as last year but we finally got some rain!

2 plus miles electric fence all will be 3-5 wires with driven pipe corners— pipe is all in and welded up, wire is mostly in and line posts are about 80% driven, need to put in two 12’ gates.

Bury 4000 feet water line—-using temporary above ground waterline all summer

Install 5 new livestock water tanks—-ha, maybe this fall/next year

Spray a couple pastures for weeds—drought was so bad weeds would not grow, had less than 1 inch of rain in 60 plus days. Will spray as soon as temps come down a little

Kill out a couple pastures for renovation, no till plant cool season annual, warm season annuals and warm season perennials depending on timing and forage needs—done but the drought pretty much killed what I planted, second planting seems to be doing pretty good.

Fertilize and lime —-done and this fall

Put in vegetable garden (I failed to do fall cover crop so more work this summer)— total failure other than purchasing seed

Key employee going from full time to part time in June = more work for me—-working out okay but more work for me

Remodeling closets and basement, more insulation throughout the house—-nope not yet, just going to hire help

Repair/replace the lower unit on my boat motor I tore up when I hit a rock—-nope maybe this fall

Pond needs some fish cover installed and restocked—-done

Cut down 2-3 24” plus diameter oaks that are dead—-1 done two to go, would have got them done but wife broke down on side of the road while I was cutting so had to go get her and work on van.

Put in permanent corrals and working pens for the cows—purchased materials just haven’t got it done yet.

Lawn guy for the office was totally unreliable last year either going to find someone else or buy a mower and hire my son. He has been mowing at the house the last two years and doing a real good job.——bought a zero turn and hired my son, working out pretty good

Yep sounds like I’m going to be hiring help this summer!——haven’t yet but need to so I can get caught up.

Well, here it is at the end of summer (almost).

Has anyone/everyone met there expectations of jobs completed this year? The garden is doing better than ever expected.

I had planned a trip to Colorado but it never materialized. So, Colorado came to us!

The 3 cords of firewood got CSS'd.
The roof is almost done on the woodshed (just need to finish installing the drip edge and lastly to put the rolled roofing on; I'm thinking fall time)
The tree work at my brother-in-law's house got put on the back burner on his end, so I'm off the hook this year.
The pool opened up on time and I've been enjoying it so far.
Gardening is going well enough, in spite of me letting the weeds take over in a few spots.

Every year gets shorter it seems and I end up doing multiple projects simultaneously that were never on the to-do list to begin with. :picard:

I have done repairs on the boat, remodeled the woodshed, un-stacked and re-stacked 2 cords of firewood so I could get to the remodel, scrounged 2 cords of Doug Fir rounds, removed 250 feet of cedar fence and broken most of it into boards, helped put in 250ft. of new fence.:) Still have to clean the roof and gutters, CSS the Fir rounds and have the septic pumped.:tears: As a reward for my hard work so far, I get to have carpal tunnel surgery. :(

Seems like this summer has flew by, I have managed to get most things done. Finally got my attic insulated up to code. Got a small garden out and been reaping the benefits of it. Been battling a rodent problem all summer had to replace some flex duct recently. Seems like the rat poison you buy these is not what it use to be.

I've had (the contents of) a whole box of mouse/rat poison get moved from the box to a bag of potting soil nearby . Apparently they will move what might be another animal's stash to their own place. AKA stealing. With so much food around in the Summer they might not eat any of it, or not enough. They probably know what will keep and what won't and eat accordingly. They can be quite the little hoarders.
