I had a smaller tree (10" ash) that I needed to clean up this morning and I thought I would use the poulan. It is a smaller saw and would have been ideal for the job. I use it about once a year. First thing, the starter cord know pulled through the handle. Quick enough of a fix but than after that, all I could get was a few sputters out of the poulan. Yeah, I know why they named it a poulan.....cuz you just keep pulling and puling and pulling (and pulling and pulling and pulling ) Even the black lab got worked up over that attempt to start the saw. Barked like crazy! Grabbed the rancher 61, fired it up and made short work of the tree. BTW, the dog never barked even once while using the husqvarna! The saw is almost 40 years old; it is my primary saw.
Dad always said 2 saws you don’t buy. Stihl and Poulan. By the time I have the tree down and sawn up.. they are stihl poulan to get them started.
Yep, it was pointed out to me by brenndatomu the red/green guy!! POLITICAL DISCLAIMER! Red/Green does not mean that he is conservative or a tree hugger
The only Poulan I own (P3816 - bought it at Lowes or HD) is the hardest saw of mine to start. However, I noticed that it starts much easier now that I only press the primer bulb 3 times as opposed to 6 per the manual...
Poulan made some great saws before Electrolux relegated them to homeowner toys. They were an American chainsaw company like McCulloch. It seems to me that Electrolux bought most all the old companies, took what they wanted or needed from the brands and then left them for dead. Jonsered is their latest scalp. No one left now really. I doubt even they have the money to purchase Stihl or Echo.
