A local Craigslist ad is offering a silver maple yard tree for free. It's tangled in the power lines, leaning over a busy road and has signs nailed to it. All you need to get this gem is....... be insured, remove everything including the stump and repair the driveway that the roots lifted!

I think most non wood people think that every tree service burns / sells wood and the wood alone is worth the effort. Or they are all cheapskates. Probably both.

To some extent it is possible. My neighbor got several bids for $1,500 to $2,000 for dropping their walnut. Then found a crew that dropped it for $800 as long as the got to take the trunk and leave the rest.

I laughed out loud at this ad. Man, what planet are these people living on? When asked you don't burn walnut, my reaponse would of shown them the 3/4 cord I have ready to mix in with other wood this year.

Never know.. might a been 3 full cord left that the tree service didn't take.

After having some timbering done in 2011 to assess the escrow shortage after we bought this place in 2010, we heated for 2 years off of the tops left behind.
    :fire:

EDIT.. Could've likely doubled that if I'd cut and stacked the maple.. I worked up the ash first.. the maple went punky before I concentrated on it.

Zack323 I just had a "discussion" with a guy from Co regarding th value of black walnut.

He is of the same belief of the person that posted the ads you showed us. I tried telling him the reality of the situation. Then, he insisted that gun manufacturers will actually send someone out to your land and cut the trees, haul them away and of course pay you on top of it all since they use them for gun stocks......

    That's nice. :zip:

Found lots of the same ingredient in his other stories also.
