Don’t think I’ve ever seen this wood before. At quick and first glance I thought possibly tree of heaven from the bark but upon looking more closely I quickly ruled that out. It has medium weight/density and split easily. So who knows what I’m dealing with here? Had 4 total logs all of which were very straight and the biggest one was around 20” in diameter.
White walnut aka butternut. Has the same type of center pith as black walnut. My last bundle delivery had a few splits from a score last Summer.
Bark looks identical so but the wood I have is lighter in color on the inside. Maybe some variation ? Was your split fresh?
That chambered pith seals the deal with the Juglandaceae family. If not butternut, it could be a Buartnut (hybrid between butternut and Japanese walnut) which is resistant to the butternut canker disease that has decimated our native butternuts.
