Wife and I were considering adding on to the back of house. Long story short, there's a creek within 50 feet and it was way too much red tape, BS, and too much $$ for engineering just to say we wouldn't get flooded. Decided on a garage build higher on the hill.We wanted something that went with our old farm house. Ideally I would of built a post and beam bank barn. But that would of been way out of our price range. Had some ideas and reached out to a few builders. An Amish shed/garage builder had an idea of what we were trying to achieve and his price was reasonable. They did the foundation in April. Day 1- Monday When I left for work. Scene when I got home Day 2- Tuesday Day 3- Wednesday No work Thursday Day 4- Friday Day 5- monday (forgot to take pics) The porch was finished, remainder of windows put in, doors installed, odds and ends done and the remainder of the battens were put up. Day 6- Tuesday (paint day) Started with the wrong color at first. Luckily I left for work late and saw it before too much got painted. Day 7/ 8 Roofing and garage doors. Pretty much done except for gutters, and cupola with weather vane. Amazing to me that 3 guys (for 2 days there were 4) were able to construct this in the amount of time they did. One guy who didn't do any of the building painted it. Another guy finished the roof by himself. Now I just need to run electric, and finish it.
Thanks everyone. It's 24' x32' with an 8' x 28' covered deck. We weren't able to run the deck the entire length because that would of put us over the square footage for stormwater management and the commie township would demand engineers to come in. Township is so controlling about people improving their properties while letting others have illegal junk yards, scrap and garbage every where.
Did they make SIPS panels on site? Interesting looks like the lower was traditional with SIPS used for the upper.
No it's traditional. One guy built the shed dormers on site on the first day in the garage, then they brought them out 2nd morning.
Either… When my beautiful bride moved in; MY house was empty.. Walmart outside green plastic table and 4 chairs in dining area.. 1 beat to death recliner.. only room with stuff was office.. typical bachelor.. it was clean!! Commercial sized mop and hardwood floors Easy fast efficient 15 years later.. OUR house is bursting at seams So is 3.5 car garage With bonus room above So is 3,600 sq foot horse barn with no animals in it IF you build it… “they” will fill IT!!
We're very happy! Now I just have to finish the upstairs. I could of sat and watched those guys work all day. They would get here about 6:40 am, be actively working by 6:42 am. Break at 9. Lunch 12- 12:30. Work until 4-4:30. Clean up and hit the road. I had a nice conversation with them about how they work and how they felt that technology has its place, but it's a big distraction on job sites. The foreman was maybe 25. The other guys were under 21. They always seemed in a good mood and happy in the work they were doing.
People at work get a lot done when they are not on their phones constantly. Awesome build thread. Really nice looking building.
Awesome build Bob!! You must be very pleased. Wait, we live in the same township??? Guy beside me has several junk cars rotting away and guy across the street down a house or two is a hoarder and it appears his house is about to fall in!
