Not that I would EVER be caught with a STIHL in my hands... :)

A buddy of mine has a farmboss something or other <shudders>. Was out cutting stumps last night and was running fine for the first couple. Then, suddenly, without warning (trying out my book writing skills) it would not run when throttle was opened up, it would bog and die. It was not out of gas.

He changed the plug, fuel filter, air filter and apparently sprayed the crap out of the carb with cleaner. Then it wouldn't start at all. Saw is about 1 1/2 years old. Knowing my buddy, if he takes care of his saw like he does his guns, the saw is probably spotless.

Anyways, what else could he do to trouble shoot the problem? He did not mess with the low/high idles.

    Thankee!!

I have the same saw- best guess would be the carburetor, despite being sprayed with cleaner is clogged.
Depending on the particulars of the stump cutting [how many / the size / condition of the chain] might pop the cover off the chain gearing to clear some of the finer sawdust that makes its way in there. I've never had my saw overheat on me, but I've also not run it full out for extended times. If overheating isn't an issue, and the carburetor is clean and all else is getting checked off... if the saw is 1.5 years old, is the gas mix that's in it the same age? Hard to diagnose but those first come to mind.

Sounds like the classic 2 stroke blow up. It was always "running good" then poof, she gone.

Yep, I'd pull the muffler and inspect the piston myself.

Looking for a signed hard cover in the near future!

Glad your friend eventually got his saw running.
