Started on splitting a pile of locust and found three rounds like this. Not sure what I have here. It was heavy wood so I put in with the locust pile for 16-17. Any idea what I have?

That sorta reminds me of an Ash that I split up (the red isnt right though). Does it smell like old whiskey barrels when you split it up?

Not sure about the green ash call. The heartwood should be more distinct, reddish brown. I'm "stumped"! Get it? :D

Im sticking with red oak. The bark is correct in the one picture along with the heart. Do the 3 rounds look alike?

That looks like wild cherry to me. Some does not have the real orange heatwood.

Red oak. It would weigh noticeably more than ash too.

Right where I want to be.
Never seen Red Oak with such wide growth rings or heartwood like that.
    Some kind of softwood?

Now that you mention it, the bark doesn't look like oak either.

there are more rings in between those dark bands - probably some staining from sitting in rounds
