Had a nice surprise while troubleshooting my new saw ( bad fuel the culprit). I removed the carb shroud- three screws rather than one on the older versions. Instead of the wire mesh filter, I find this thing. I blew it our with compressed air. Anyone familiar with this type? I get the impression it is a thing to be replaced with a new one after so many hours. OEM prices online for from 12-14 bucks. Thanks Stihl- a ploy to create more revenue.
What saw? That's similar to the filters on my mtronic saws. Mine don't have fleece on them though. I clean mine with starting fluid then blow them out with air. If you buy online make sure it's genuine. Any aftermarket filters I've seen when working on other people's saws suck.
Just my $.02 , buy a new OEM . Then try washing the old one in warm water with a bit of dish soap . The filter looks like it’s made to be cleaned that way . If it dissolves ,you still have the new filter and have gained knowledge . Remember … “ Experience is that thing you get , right after you need it “ .
farmer steve it is the ms271 I think. I will follow Nixon advice and then experiment with cleaning. my saw was runny badly so I checked the filter, and hit it with compressed air. Leaned I made a fresh batch of two stroke with bad gasoline.
I like fine mesh filters. You can clean em! Any other filter keeps clogging up more and more, even if you clean it, because the fines stay in there.
Just toss it and get a new one. the risk of dirt ingestion isn’t worth destroying the cylinder or piston.
