I agree with Brad, that first 50/50 is a way to leave a great first impression so to speak. It's all downhill from here. Great mound of logs!

Sweet score and looking forward to seeing the woodshed progress. What model LS you got there? I think I see a 2 behind the loader? I am closing on a new property in about a month and am going to be in the market. I visited our local LS dealer and played around with the mt240 the other day. How do you like it, hours, any issues so far?

I'll post up the wood rack / shed when I start on it. The LS is an Mt 225s. 3 cylinder 25 hp. I have had it 9 months and have 78 trouble free hours on it. I only have 1 acre of improved property so it has suited my needs well.

Thanks for the insight. Property is 12 acres, about 2 acres mowed and then 5 scrub and other 5 wooded. I’m leaning towards something in the 40 horse range even though that means dealing with emissions. Grew up with 8 and 9n’s, and dad currently has a ‘62 ford 2000. Ran a few different brands of compacts throughout the years but will be my first tractor purchase. There’s so many brands and so much info out there! While it’s fun researching and visiting different dealers quickly will the time come I’m just going to need the keys.

I was looking in the end at what is local for service for me.

what good is a machine if parts/service is 50-75+ miles away.

I went with a 2000 model bobcat 773 because the hydraulic and engine systems basically haven’t changed in 20+ years. But the electronics and emissions have to make it prone to breakdown.

a tractor with similar lift capacity would have been $10-15k more money over this skid steer.

I definitely have considered dealer locations. I am lucky to have a dealer/service dept. for most of the big name brands all within a 20-30 mile radius. The LS dealer is a former and long time ford tractor dealer with a good reputation. I am not a mechanic and won’t be tearing apart a hydro tranny but I have no problems performing routine maintenance and even some other smaller repair tasks should they arise. I’m really torn between buying one of the less popular(although reputable from my research) brands new or buying one of the big two(orange/green) used. The crazy high prices on late model used compacts almost make it so I want to buy new for the warranty as there isn’t a massive price difference.

Sorry for the thread derailment GrJfer

No worries, it's all content and all pertinent to our quest of BTU's.

Well I grabbed load #3 today. The sawmill owner has been very helpful and happy with the wood I've left and how I've left things. Really turning out to be a great score.
