I can definitely tell we are gaining so much daylight. This has been the mildest winter I can remember. The Bradford Pear Trees are already in full bloom here.
We have a resident winter population of Robins, but a week and a half ago there were about 30 in the yard. I assume these were migratory. Today I saw a first bunch of Starlings mobbing the suet feeder. They will do this every day until the suet is gone or nesting is over. I sure dislike the beggars! Our Trillium is sprouting and the backyard Forsythia has a first few spots of color. 28* last night but sunny and warming fast today. Winter is begrudgingly giving over to spring!
I hadn't seen that one before. Very encouraging. Signs of early spring, or optimism, either way it is hope. I've seen may early and late spring, But the one constant is that it isn't safe for tender plants until after Memorial day. If you have covers, or hardy plants, you can capitalize on the good early weather. Saw it one year where the leaves all came out early only to be hit by a late hard frost. they recovered by the damage could be seen for a long time. First time I ever saw leaves on a red oak freeze and die off.
