Got a warm week coming up so I thought I'd defrost this pile to make it into firewood. It's under there somewhere I just drop it once or twice and the snow comes off better in today's colder temps than if it were above freezing like the rest of this week. That's all ice I'm on, good and hard. Just part of it ^^^ but there's also another pile just like it buried in "the freezer" also.
I don't know about you guys, but today was downright balmy at +/- 20's compared to the last few! Nice day to be out.
it was 14 friday, everyone complaining about the cold, I thought it was a nice day. too hot today at 48, sweating with a hoody on.
Morning temp swing of 40* here today vs. yesterday. I liked it yesterday. Nice and brisk with no wind. Today and this week back to our boring record warm Winter here.
It was mid 20’s all day Sunday and spent it cutting the hardwood pile up. sucks the layer of ice we have under everything. The man glitter helped with traction at least.
Looking like a good time there, fuelrod. Whenever you post pics of your setup, I can see many of the ingredients I want for act 2 of my life, if and when that should happen.
This is another reason I love being 4-5 years ahead. I'd rather process during warmer conditions. Guess that makes me a fair weather hoarder? Did you need the wood now or just felt like it?
I don’t burn yet. our house with the wood stove won’t be built until 2026. So I’m starting to put wood up now with that in mind. so man glitter is all I have at the moment. yesterday I realized how much you make on 3 cuts into a 32-36” trunk…. dang was that a bunch.
There’s 7’ worth of that size pieces. I figure it’s about 49.5 ft^3. Just over a face cord. About 34-36” diameter.
I have other stuff to do once the snow is gone, besides it's a good motivator 2nd rack just out from production on its way to storage area. The next time I'll touch it will be to move it to the house for cremation . 1 year seems to be what my boiler likes and I fell behind a year while I built the sawmill building that now has been re named the wood shed. Some winters were just too much trouble to process firewood. I've got my sawmill tucked away against the back wall leaving plenty of room for "firewooding" without either stomping around in the snow or clearing it off the equipment and ground.
The deep freeze and high winds seemed to dry the ground out nicely. At least the top. Then last night we had rain, sleet and ice. Once the sun came out everything turned to mushy grease again.
Ok, I'm tired of getting dripped on working under the eave. It was minor dripping a few days ago but it's barely freezing overnight and it's a rainstorm today. I was hoping that the snow would come off the roof, but I'd had enough. Plus I haven't played with this toy for probably 5-6 years. I would cut up the smaller stuff on the table, right under the roof edge. It's there so I only turn around to rack it. I do the logs that need splitting (on the other side of the rack) where the splitter is (in the building) and load the splits from the other side. It's as "streamlined" as it can be. More silly pictures It wasn't long before the snow I couldn't reach slid off on its own. This side let go when I was under it I did 2 other shed roofs while I was all "set up
