Temperatures in the teens and single digits are almost a welcome relief right now in places like the upper midwest, where they see zero, or 10, 20+ below zero fairly regularly. To those guys this is nothing. I wanted to scoff about this at first but honestly, if I fell on really (REALLY) hard times and had to sleep outdoors in this weather, I suppose I'd appreciate having someplace to turn to before I turned into a frozen meat suit. Thankfully I've always been gainfully employed and able to provide for myself and my family. I understand that through many circumstances people can find themselves among the downtrodden, hungry and cold. So I'll try to practice some gratitude that I've got a family, a good career, a warm house, and a mountain of firewood to go home to when the cold settles in.

I’m truly grateful for all of my many blessings. I believe we are here to take care of one another, that’s how things work the best. How to prevent poverty and homelessness is beyond my little brain. :handshake:

That "van down by the river" isn't so attractive now, huh?

Actually if it was just me in these times I wouldn’t mind getting the heck away from society and doing just that. Only thing is I wouldn’t be plastering pictures of it on Instagram and documenting every moment on YouTube ;)

I am grateful for what I have and enjoyed yesterday because I got to sit and observe our wonderful wood stove while enjoying the wonderful heat it produced.

We are at least 55° warmer than we had been just a few days ago, and 32° feels good. I live in rural Dakotah Territory so homelessness isn't something I ever really see, but always think when it really drops how do people make it? I have however personally known 3 people who through vehicle accidents/troubles and poor choices frozen to death and several others who if not by good luck were found when they were within mere minutes of death.
