This picture of my wife and son on Utah Beach is the only one I took. Neither of us felt much of an urge to take pictures, and now that I think about it far fewer people were doing so compared to other “tourist” destinations. It was probably the part of the trip that I’ll remember the most. The Utah Beach museum and various monuments did an amazing job of conveying a fraction of the bravery of the US soldiers, the sacrifices they made, and the violence they faced. It was very powerful. The US cemetery was beautiful—there is no finer place to be buried on this planet. It would take a long time (and a thesaurus) for me to capture how moving all of it was. Ralphie Boy Thank you for the recommendation on La Pointe du Hoc—I’m really glad we went, and we might not have if you didn’t mention it.
