I started the season with a bit over 8 tons. Mostly GS from the HD sale last spring. Normally I don't care for GS (northeast), but even after paying $80 for delivery, I paid $190/ton, so couldn't pass it up. Left over from last season is a mix of TSC (MWPs), logik e, Orford as well as my prize CL/FBM scores from last year; Cubix and and Fusion (lauzon) HW. The first firings of the stoves was on 9/23/22. I only touched off the P61a because I had replaced the ash door gasket and the adhesive said to heat it up within 30 days - so I did. So far I've used a total of 13 bags - 10 of that in October.
4 bags as of 11/1/22 , looks like the stove will be off for the next week and just use the baseboard heat
Did some stove maintenance yesterday, and fired up the Harman ! Burned about a half hopper, what I had left from last season. Tomorrow will be a full burn day, with forecast of upper 30's, but wind gusting into 30's.
13 bags used for November, for a total of 24 bags this heating season. The first couple of weeks of November were wicked mild with a lot of sun so the P43 didn't run much. Additionally, the 5 days I was gone for Thanksgiving, I ran the mini split (ran the P61 in the basement, but this time of year it doesn't eat much to keep it warm and left a bunch of 1/2 bags for the pet-sitter to keep it filled).
Over the month of November, I used only 2/3 of the amount of pellets that I have used over the past Novembers since 2014, except the winter of 2015-216 that was unusually mild.
I can't like that, ouch! Two bags here but the pellet stove is only in my shop. How many tons do you go through in a season?
By your totals so far, you could be right. Hope you get some milder weather until you can get more insulation in and tighten things up a bit. Least amount of pellets I've used in November since keeping record by 15 bags to the next closest (2020/2021). Sure, I used the mini split for 5 days this year, but that wouldn't translate into that many pellets. I didn't keep records before the winter of 2016/2017, but yeah, that winter must have been really mild since that was the spring of the "fire sales". But I guess even if I had records for that year, it would prove nothing since I didn't insulate the basement walls until May of 2017 (also when I knocked out wall in basement to improve air movement plus moved P61a to a more favorable position).
November was #6 warmest on record. I think December has a strong chance of reversing the warm trend over the past few months, and of warm December's last few years.
Will add, I've started burning some LaCretes, I forgot what the ash of a premium was like, after several season of the cheap box store pellets.
Since the temps dropped to below freezing at night the stove has been full bore in this shack, Where the old lake house we never went higher than medium heat setting. I need more insulation and a better air flow/convection to get more warm air upstairs. Basement is 78ºF and upstairs is 72ºF.
Wow. We get into real arctic air, teens days, below zero at night, with wind, going to be tough to keep that place warm.
Working on that, Trying to get some better convection going(fan to move air down to the basement which should help warm air move upstairs. And insulation will be here in early January. Plus we still have an oil furnace if we need to up the temp quickly.
