Hello to my FHC family. Yeah I’m a seasonal poster and it’s that time of year again! Feels great to be back, don’t realize you miss it here that much till’ your back. Anyways, I can count on one finger how many times I’ve purchased wood since I started burning full time in 2012 but sometimes you gotta do it. Kids are getting older and more involved in sports so hoarding is becoming harder. I have about 6 cord of really nice oak and locust on hand but couldn’t get myself any shoulder season wood this year. Was gonna start burning the primo stuff but then a ad popped up for 2 face cord of soft maple and elm for 140 bucks. Went to check it out and I’d say it was closer to a full cord. Loaded up, payed the man and didn’t look back. All consistent lengths and nice and dry. 6x10 trailer and 6’ bed all loosely tossed. Think I made out ok and now I can save the primo wood for when the temps really drop. Great to be back and look forward to a fun season here on FHC!
Im in the same boat this year. I've been burning all the crap stuff that I put in piles for the fire pit, and Ive been more selective of when I should have fires. Its been so mild that I should be able to make it until December, then I have plenty of hardwood to get me through to spring.
Same mild weather here. Haven’t even had a fire yet as furnace hasn’t really been on too much. Thinking Sunday will be first fire as temps look to be in the 20’s for low.
A full cord of good hardwood here runs about the same. This isn’t the most desirable species and the guy doesn’t burn so I suppose that’s why he sold it so cheap. Said he had some trees taken down in May ‘21 and didn’t want the tree company to take it. But he still had to invest time and labor to process it so I don’t know, just glad to have some stuff for this mild weather.
