Hello guys. I have not been around much in such a long time. I posted several months ago about my accident and concussion. Medical appointments and tests and most importantly healing up are all taking longer than I ever thought. I am doing better, but really not happy about how long it is taking and I miss being able to do all the outdoor things I used to do without any issues. Have had some help keeping the wood pile full. Thanks to a couple of friends for all the help (even though "they" broke the rope on my log splitter starter...lol). I had enough wood for this winter in my stash and now have enough for next year. My buddies are still willing to help add to the stash to get back to a three year supply. Been cutting mostly Ash trees. You all know how they are dying off. They are really starting to die off and I think after next year they will be too punky to amount to firewood harvest. I am really sad about loosing one of my favorite species of tree...love them...to me they are a perfect tree in so many ways. The good news is that many decent size Ash are on the edge of the woods and my road on the farm here...so they are easy to get at and process and usually only have to drag them out of the tree line less than 30 feet....and it's still more than we will be able to process before they go punky. Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Also, please remember your safety gear and keep your chains sharp!!!
Good to hear about bring on the mend. I was laid up for a few months earlier this year. It's always good to have friends nearby to assist where they can. Here's to continued healing!
Thanks!!! I have some really nice Ash trees that are in fields or meadows, kind of on their own, and they are in much better shape than the others....just very few in number!
Sorry to hear about your health but it's great that you have friends who are willing to help out. Getting into an accident or getting really sick is just another good reason to have way more wood on hand than needed for one season. I often think about this and my outdoor wood boiler. She will feed it wood here and there but I don't think my wife is up to the task of loading and hauling wood to the house if needed. Let's hope I never have to find out.
I am blessed to have good friends that are willing to lend a hand. I have fallen off my 3 year supply, but back up to two years now! A good wood pile is like money in the bank. Glad that I moved my wood storage closer to the garage several years ago. A twenty foot walk to the wood pile is better than a 200 yard walk right now.
Thanks...I am there and doing what I can...one of my favorite things to do is stack up the ends of the wood pile - criss cross - like to get them nice/strong/straight - might have a little OCD when it comes to that, I purposely process rounds into nice flat splits for my end stacking obsession.
Glad you are getting back in the swing again. I've been lazy/un-motivated the past couple years so way down on wood. Good for this year, plus most of next year. Trying to get back to Dennis' 3-year plan.
Welcome back shack. Good you are able to do some work again. Many of us have gone through some rough recoveries and we are indeed blessed when we have friends who want to help.
