Our neighbors asked if I could help them by cutting s branch off a birch tree in their back yard. The branch was really leaning and despite their best effort, they weren’t able to get it to straighten out. No problem! This is one of those jobs were it’ll take longer to get all the gear, walk it over, set up than it will to cut. Until….you go too deep on your relief cut! I tried wedges, a pry bar and all that with my neighbor pulling on a rope they had attached to, the branch. Nothing worked. What did work: Removing the bar, installing my 16” bar and chain (which was slightly sharper than a butter knife) and finishing the cut. Once the branch was down, I put the 18” bar and chain on and limbed and bucked it. They’ll actually have a few nice smaller splits from this for their stove or fire pit. So the job got done, albeit a lot slower than anticipated. But we had some good laughs and I’m sure they’ll remember this one for awhile.
Thanks guys! Tried everything first and then arrived at taking the saw apart. First time I did that with the saw 6’ off the ground!
Sometimes the easiest job turn out to be the ones that give you the most grief. Glad it all worked out in the end.
