Found this red wood in my wood pile. I don't remember cutting or splitting any red would.

Any more bark pictures? Could be cherry, could also be honey locust.
Edit: the grain on the left one looks like honey locust to me, but the other red splits look like cherry grain.

I'd call that cherry...I have some racked up for this winter that looks just like that, and I know it is cherry for sure.

What does it smell like ?

There really isn’t enough bark for me to confirm either of the above guesses. At first glance I thought Honey Locust but I can see Cherry also.

That little piece of bark would be cherry here

I wish I had some better close up pictures, but from this little limb wood I got a few weeks ago and the few rounds you gave me last fall, I'm positive that the split on the left is HL. The others scream cherry.

Good stuff that cherry. The change from young bark to mature is definitely different. Who doesn't love smelling it from their stack??

Standing dead cherry is my guess. At least that’s what it reminds me of with the clearly delineated line of good firewood and flaky dry rotting wood on the outside. Good burning stuff! Probably burn it as soon as you split it if you want:thumbs: The grain on the split on the left looks like trunk wood from a larger cherry tree if I had to guess.

Honey locust. The bug hole in the sap wood tells it all.

I believe Honey Locus. I found a couple more of the deep red pieces in a stack and they had the bore holes.

Honey locust has a very pungent smell. Not harsh, but pungent. Cherry smells very sweet and distinct. If you put a torch to the cherry and blow it out and sniff the smoke I think you'll smell the sweetness I'm talking about very clearly. The honey locust I've gotten is more yellow and less red.
