kinda Facebook score. A buddy does some home maintenance on a rental home. Utility company cut this up. Going to drive my POV into work and load it up. May have to return with my trailer and roll a bunch onto it. yeah I got a ton of trees but to score pre-cut can’t be passed . Will update.
I stopped by. The yard is narrow and small. It is partially down a weedy splope soi would need to bring my splitter and try to maneuver it all around. may give it a try.
Well, the free stuff didn’t pan out. Small back yard and most of it is on a slope. Would need to rig a winch and have to split on site. But.... one of the guys who hunts on my place had this fall in his yard. I think an oak is down too. My brother is going to trailer his Kubota over, and they will cut it into logs. The use my tractor to off load at the farm. I told him to not be shy about loading six inch branches too. I like to day-feed the boiler with that kind of stuff. Feels like extra-free when I can burn 8 hours with dead fall and waste stuff. That beech is good fireplace wood too.
Sorry to hear the pre-cut score fell through, but at the same time, there’s nothing wrong with nice straight beech like that
Sounds like you made a smart call. That’s an underrated scrounging skill — knowing when to walk away. And I love that extra-free feeling…burning mill ends or uglies does it for me. Stacks actually look better/cleaner when the scrap is burned!
M2theB I have become a fan, after cutting a big one up, and double checking the info on our website. High btu, and fast season time. The bark dries away from the slit, and it makes good kindling. I enjoy it in the fireplace, but the big chunks will feed the OWB.
my brother brought over the beech. There was some huge sections that I told him I didn’t want to mess with. He took them down to the logging yard to throw onto the other remnants of the logging a couple years ago. This area normally has two or three holz housen by now. Temps are dropping, so need to get at it before interfering with deer season. a couple of pine logs in there too. I told him they actually make good burning when seasoned. I will stack them onto the fireplace piles to use in a couple years
