Welcome to the forum Son of a Woodcutter.

That is a lot of work putting up that much wood every year. Many folks would love to have room enough to store that much but that is one great benefit of country living.

How often do you have to add wood to the boiler? Have you considered a separate heater for the shop and what temperature do you keep the shop?

Thanks! And yes, that is the idea, I will use the forklift to bring them near the stove when required.

Yes, that is a Heatmaster MF7000. I do like it, I didn't get much time to do research and this was during COVID when everything was hard to source, they had one so I bought it. Since then, I discovered a local dealer here in Canada that sells a brand called Heatmor, I have heard from many people that these are better. The 7000 is undersized for what we need, so I will try one more season and potentially switch it our for the 10,000 if required. I would have gone for Gasification but at the time I was not sure if I could find enough clean fuel for it, I do like how I can but things like cardboard, punky wood, sawdust etc. I am envious of your folks!

The one there before was an Amish made unit, very good but old. They we're able to drive a skid, stacked with pallet wood scraps right into it. I was very daunted at the idea of keeping it fed, so we bought a new one with the idea that it would be more efficient.

Oh wow that is ingenious! Maybe I will upgrade to that one day. Right now I have posts in the middle to split it up into sections for easier stacking

Thank you so much! We bought the property because of the shop basically, we build custom wood furniture here at www.sonofawoodcutter.ca. The best bit? The offcuts of oak, ash, walnut etc. to burn!

Son of a Woodcutter welcome to the land of BTU's. You sir definitely have the addiction, though it sounds like out of necessity an addiction nonetheless.

Awesome set you have there. Hoard on!

They look like they are constructed in a similar style as the crate my wood chipper was delivered in. It came from Woodland Mills which looks to be 3-4hrs from you. I wonder if they are crates they ship some of their other products in.

In your first post, you mentioned “Equipment wise I bought a Stihl MS500i which I think is the single best investment I have ever made, ”. My one piece of advice would be to amend that in the future to say it was the SECOND best investment you ever made. That always leads someone to ask what the BEST investment was. That gives you the opportunity to say “The engagement ring I bought my wife when I asked her to marry me”. The brownie points you earn from that can be leveraged to buy more equipment!

I am probably filling it three times a day, I live and work here, so it's not so hard. I would consider upgrading the size of the boiler, so it only needs to be done twice daily like most. The wood boiler is for the shop, I have considered alternatives for the garage as that is a long distance from the boiler, and probably takes alot of energy. The main shop is kep around 16 degrees C and the finishing room around 20, finishes need to cure etc.

Now make the shop more airtight and add some more insulation. That boiler will do just fine. Reflective insulation is great when used correctly.
