I left my wood storage area yesterday and 1/4 mile down the road i pass a peculiar "rock" in the oncoming lane. Get to the stop just ahead and it hits me that it was a turtle. Put it in reverse and sure enough...a turtle. Flashers on, truck in park i get out and pick it up. It "Pees" (or discharges water) while im trying to hold it and get in the truck and while in the truck. There's a resevoir right there divided by the road. I get to the small parking lot where residents can park and fish and let it go at waters edge. Away it swims. It wouldve just put it on the other side of the road and let it go on its way, but a very steep embankment. Good deed for the day done.
Early June is when turtles are roaming around to lay their eggs. Often times on a south facing slope so the sun will incubate them.
I have done that a few times myself until I learned that it is actually the wrong thing to do. Helping turtles cross roads Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk
Years back i had a turtle laying eggs in my front yard in the mulch next to the foundation. We live next to a small river and have seen a couple traversing the yard. One was a big azz snapping turtle.
Normally i try not to "interfere" with nature, but Ms. buZZsaw ran over a turtle in our driveway and it made such a loud sound she was upset for weeks. I was in the house and heard it too. It was a blind area of road near an intersection. Little sucker did move "fast" when i tried to pick it up.
Nice job sir. I have done the same thing a couple years back. However it was a snapping turtle so I let him bite onto a stick and moved him out of harms way. Didn't want my thumb to look like BRAD's
Had the same experience one time during work. It was a pretty good sized “pond turtle” saw it crossing the road, we stopped the pickup, I jumped out grabbed him , put him on the floor of the pickup, he proceeded to hose down the floor of the pickup, lol took him home so the kids could see him. Then I took him out by the dam and let him go with his buddies in a small pond. Believe it or not, he was just a bit smaller than a full sized dinner plate! Biggest one I’d ever seen.
