Took some pictures while I was filling up with over priced gas distilled from foreign oil. Anyhow.... Had to do my math for this and each bundle of kiln dried gypsy moth and EAB free firewood is 0.7 cubic feet. A cord is 128 cubic feet. The price is $6.99 per bundle. It works roughly to $1272.00 a cord for poplar. The irony is I had my trailer full of fire pit wood on as I saw this and realized that at that price the wood I had on the trailer was worth more than what I paid for the trailer.
With prices going up on HHO and gas etc., I wonder how many folks will buy those bundles for heating, before realizing the ruse...?
I also wonder if this is why so many people think they have a gold mine when they have a tree cut down.
I suppose that for the urban dwellers with a back yard, this is just the ticket for that "back to nature" evening of a small controlled sterile fire in a little chimenea or something like that. Gives even city kids a chance to toast marshmallows and roast some hot dogs over an open flame. Heck, the ingredients for smores alone are much more expensive that that firewood! Only other observation is that there are probably some horrendous transportation and preparation costs associated with the distribution/delivery and having the USDA certification. But, with that being said, it's still expensive!
I saw something like that several years ago at TSC. Had a cord load on our trailer, too. Figured it up, trailer load was worth about $750...
Yes that’s happening. They won’t pay the tree service for haul out but want CL people pay them for the opportunity to haul out. I don’t play that game.
Myself, if I cut down a tree (which I'm going to do shortly), I give all the wood away. I don't heat with chunk wood so it's of no consequence to me.
