Husky 55 problem

Our 55 has started to have a cranking problem. Ran great the other day, used it most of the morning, came back after lunch, filled gas tank.
Pulled choke on, pulled rope till it burped, then it wouldn't crank. Thought I might have flooded it. Waited awhile, still wouldn't crank. Tried the next day...nope...
Air Filter looked good, pulled it off, poured a tiny bit of gas in carb, pulled it a few times, fired up...ran good.
Used it again Tues and Wed. Ran fine until Wed afternoon, same thing again. Haven't tried the gas in carb trick again...
Any ideas on the problem???

 

Is the fuel filter still attached to the end of the hose? Maybe it vacuumed the gas tank and carb screen is clogged or the fuel filter is clogged or it’s a Husqvarna and they can’t work as much as you want them too.

This saw is a nice runner when the soft goods are good. And it’s a different saw than most Huskies.
It has a hard plastic plenum between the cylinder and the carb cabin that is easy to strip if installing a carb. Be careful with that if you do!
The other oddball thing is there is a bushing that sits in the cylinder that receives a bayonet from that plenum. It looks like a long Cheerio.
It’s part of the impulse system.
That is a consumable, especially if the saw is run as much as you run yours.

 

Intake boot isn’t clamped and that impulse nipple, both are rubber bits that when old, can fail. I agree w M2theB. Check those first. These saws are crazy easy to work on. The other avenue I’m looking down is when was the last time the fuel system had a refresh?

 

I haven't done anything to it, just basic saw maintenance.

 

Mine did the same thing. Take the recoil off and clean and lube it.

 

How old is it? Have you ever replaced the gaskets in the carb? There might be an air leak somewhere. If you get it running I'd do the brake clean test near the clutch, near the intake boot.....see if it kills the saw.....Then you can identify where the issue is.

Well, the little Husky acted up again the other day. Took it down to a shop in a nearby town. Husky dealer there said he was only doing warranty work right now, might be a couple months before he could check it out. Referred me to a small engine shop close by. Left it with him......
He called the other day, said coil was bad, not firing. He called today, said he had it fixed...but the coil he got only has 1 wire, have to use choke to shut it off......he went to dealer to check on different coil after I said I wanted the off switch to work. Dealer said they didn't make the 2 wire coil anymore...
I looked a few up on eBay......
He said he changed the plug and had a little water in it......all for the nice price of $120...
I would/should have sent it to one of my FHC friends, would rather pay y'all and shipping for a job done right...
Think I got the shaft on this deal...

Just curious, if they make single wire coils for it, what's wrong with that?
Most saws I've ever messed with only had 1 wire for the coil...plus maybe a ground wire, but that'd be easy enough to add I'd think.
But I've never messed with a 55...maybe I'm missing something about how the kill switch works...

 

I think the kill switch wire goes back to the coil and grounds it. He is saving the old coil, I'm going to see if I can find 1 like it.

 

Mag case on this 51, almost the same as a 55. It’s a two wire coil and grabs the ground to the case at the coil. Contact at the handle completes path to ground at the same mag case



Here’s a 350 where the on off is surrounded by plastic. The black ground is run from the coil, where it grabs ground and is available to short circuit with the blue via that piece of bent metal.

One couldn't do a lil custom wiring and make that 1 wire coil work?
If I'm understanding it right you just need a ground wire up to the switch?

 

I may have a coil or two kicking around, too.

 

Although I wouldn’t fully trust that guy’s diagnosis, I’ve had a couple coils fail or were bad from parts saws. It does happen.

That stinks. Nothing more frustrating than a problematic saw when you need it to cut, especially after its supposedly been fixed/corrected. Why i sent my 036 packing and i liked that saw.
