My T540 battery wasn't using bar oil. Pulled the bar and found the oil outlet had oil moving in it (almost pulsating in the supply) under throttle but nothing coming out. So, I called my dealer who ordered a pump in anticipation of needing to R&R it. I dropped it yesterday and had lunch down the street. Sure enough, when I came back in an hour, the pump was shot and he had replaced it. Back to good under warranty but he was surprised at the failure. He's a pretty high volume dealer and said he had never seen one go on this particular saw. Hey, there can be failures of any component on any machine so I'm not mad... other than the $80 price tag of the lunch with my wife and daughter... So, has anyone else had a bar oil pump fail or am I special?
I've never had one fail but I bought a saw where the clutch broke and it took the oil pump with it. Doesn't really count though. The important thing is your good to go now.
As a matter of fact, my oiler in my 450 Rancher seems to have crapped out in a big way. It's always leaked just a bit (since it was NIB) so I've eliminated that by storing it clutch side up. I pulled it out of my truck yesterday and the oil just poured out in streams. Guess I got something major hosed up. Will have to start looking for parts. How big a deal is it to rebuild these things? Never done it before...
Yes oiler in my Husq 350 needed replaced. It's been a few years but I seem to recall it is a known issue with Husq's leaking oil.
My older 257 used to leak a decent amount of oil when not used for any amount of time. My 562 was better but still would leak a little. The 540 never leaked. It just stopped pumping...
Leaking oil isn't a blown pump, typically. The rubber lines that seal to the pump feed and output side get hard and leak. Can get away with careful placement of good rtv or similar.
The new pump worked but the saw came back with a very loud noise and vibration. (Should had test run it in the parking lot!) Had to bring it back in. Not sure what's up now and am waiting to hear back from my dealer...
The OP asked if anyone else had one go bad, I stated I did and they are known to leak oil, -I never said it was leaking oil because the pump went bad.
Just heard from my dealer. The noise and vibration was caused by a broken fan blade. Not sure if that would have happened while swapping the pump? Seem coincidental as it was fine when I brought it in but seems it's on the other side so... just not sure. Of course it's on back order so I'm without this saw for a while now.
