My brother has been having a bunch of wood come up missing (keeps it by the alley) while I, right across the street, haven't lost a piece. Sheriff Andy Taylor told him to get a trail cam so they can catch the guy. Anyone have problems like this, and if so what do you do?

Personally, I would move the wood. Having seen your brothers place, he could easily move it closer to the house...end of story...no more missing wood. You could also get a motion sensor light for the back yard.
Ooh, Or, he could get a motion sensor light for the garage and leave the wood there. Draw back to that plan is he would totally pizz off the neighbor behind him.
    Just a thought....

He did move the stuff directly behind the garage. Still has a bunch of it by the alley. Dumb place for it, but who expects thieves?

Oh, I thought that's what you meant by behind the garage.
In that case, razor wire is the only option.
Seriously, would a motion sensor work?
That's so weird that there is theft in your neck of the woods. Bunch of savages in this town.....

Motion detector can also set off an alarm inside. Cheap ones a viable at harbour freight for $15. He could set the alarm at his bed side. The cams can be bought starting about $50. But he wants to be careful with those because they disappear too. Cover over any red light with tape. Post signs that there is video survalance system in place.
Can he fence the wood in?

I meant since the last theft (Monday, probably actually Sunday night) he moved it.

There is no real chance of fencing it in. I will tell him about the light/alarm.

seriously if I could afford the trail cam I would like to catch the mofo's, and watch them being put in the back of the cop car

I just hate thieves coming on your property and helping themselves. So often it isn't desperation as much as it is lazy ness to to earn what they are stealing. Hope your bother doesn't have any more uninvited guest.
We have lights on at night. Five of them. All LED that don't add up to one 60 watt regular bulb. That and two big dogs that just love to bark when they hear something strange. I'm a light sleeper and respond when I hear my pets stirring.

I'm like you at the end of the dead end street, only one Kinda close neighbor.
My place is lit up at night, big dusk to dawn light on the pole barn and 3 porch lights are all dust to dawn, plus a motion light on this side of the pole barn

How do you like being where you are? I personally don't want to be anywhere else. Best for me to be off by myself.

I bought the place because of the location.
I want to do what I want to do when I want to do it without bothering other people
I can run my woodworking machines in the pole barn after midnight if I want to
My attitude is don't bother me and I won't bother you, so the farther you are away from other people the less they will bother you

I was expecting a different thread from the title. I would assume if he makes it easy, the thieves will come. Wood up next to a house, especially with dogs, is probably safe.

Agreed, same situation here. Whoever decides to steal from our yard will definitely have to work for it. I have sent the dogs out in the past when the motion detectors went off on a non windy night, it ended up being a deer. Poor fella had the scale the 5' chain link in the backyard.
I like the camera idea, if knew something was up, I'd get one

He's been hit three times for increasing amounts. Last one was about a full truckload.
