Meteor pistons are outstanding. Meteor cylinders may be decent (depending on production runs).
The Farmertec handle will eventually bend if you use the saw with any regularity. The tank will be fine but keep an eye on the seam and the fuel cap. I usually replace with OEM (both flippy and screw). The o-rings survive for about a year or so.
Knock the carb studs out of the busted tank. Strip all the smalls off it and save them. The tiny screw on the side, too. OEM master switches for 1128 series are a ton better than AM. Save the wire harness and the grommets.

660s- if the starting issue means that they’re tough to pull over without the decomp pushed in, then yes- they’re 92cc and take a bit to pull.
If it’s tough to pull over with the decomp pushed in, then take off the recoil and check the coil gap, the starter pawls, and the length of the starter rope. Elastostarts (OEM) are the way to go for 1122 series.
Also check the carb for a possible needle leak if it loads up with fuel while sitting.

Thanks for all the tips as usual. Yep had the one issue with the Meteor piston and got a replacement asap. Hopefully the farmertec handles are better than before but I won't be using this saw often. I think the 034 is still my go to....but I'll save this saw for the big boy rounds....but I do plan on using it for a few days in a row on this hickory!

Didn't come with a fuel cap - I'm re-using the oem one and yes, I pulled the carb studs, took the wiring harness still attached to the switch, and grabbed the fuel line and reused the impulse line. I'll test out the Farmertec switch and if necessary I'll have the oem one to swap-in.

He says the decomp pops up with each pull. Perhaps the decomp needs to be replaced. I just remember it biting me back real hard on the pull rope because I was on the wrong stroke. It has an Elastostart already iirc.

Would the carb loading up with fuel cause it to be hard to pull or just hard to start?

Both. There’d be fuel in the engine (flooded) and would need to be cleared out. I doubt that’s the problem since it’ll be pretty obvious.
I have to see/feel it to diagnose. A healthy 660 has the compression and size to take some strength to pop. It shouldn’t be too tough to pull over unless something is wrong.

Yeah he said he's just annoyed that he has to push the decomp button down every time or else it gets hard to pull. It's the oem carb in there with a walbro gasket rebuild kit. I'll check in with him and see if it's still a problem in a week or so. It's been a hot minute since he used that saw. Or decade.

New decomp valve and verify that the recoil is working properly.
064s are my go to saws for bigger wood. My 660 hasn’t been run in a year. It has a 36” bar on it and cuts well. It’s just not as practical as an 064 with a 24-28” bar. Probably the reason I have four of those…

Nice, I was contemplating rebuilding the 460 for a while now but then getting this ginormous hickory (30"+ diameter) made it an easy decision for me. That's exactly the time where it would come in handy....although I have to say I've already bucked two rounds and noodled the halves with the 034 S and a 20" bar and yes I had to switch sides and it probably took a few minutes longer but ......

Get an oem 390xp or 395 decomp for him. They have a larger bleed hole

And yah a 36" bar is ginormous.....It took all my strength to hold the 3120 with a 48" bar lmfao. Maybe I'll pick up a 24" bar that I can use on the 034 or the MS460.

Hm I have an broken 395xp that needs to be checked....I'll take a look at it and perhaps steal it from there for now. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's all relative. Spend a week running 3+gallons of gas a day, thru a 3120 with a long 36" Windsor bar . 6 hour days.
    A 460 Stihl with a 32" b+c feels like a little toy.
I have a 460 that is developing an air leak. I'm going to have to figure out what's up with it before I use it again.

Oooooo baby we are making some progress. Actually it took like 2 minutes to do this as I'm still waiting for the piston and cylinder to arrive.....

But I was busy cleaning up the garage and figured I'd do something to do with a chainsaw as it has been raining all day.

You tightened and double checked the flywheel nut?

I am interested in the old cylinder if you’d like to recoup some of your funds and if you aren’t using it anyway

PSA this little rubber grommet goes on the oil pump. I noticed there was a gap there and looked up the parts diagram. Phew. Disaster averted.

Also the ground wire just goes in between the right coil screw and the crankcase.

My before pics sucked because the saw was just caked with muck.
