Yeah I just make sure to use my leg and azz muscles instead of my back. I have 3 partially herniated discs that have acted up in the past. Surprisingly the wood I lift the stronger I've been getting and my back is slowly getting better. These aren't mamma jamma 30"+ rounds. If that size in oak I'd have to split before lifting. But these are decent sized for sure but very doable.
Section it with a maul for ease of handling or noodle. My inner hulk (and some testosterone) had me lifting big rounds into and out of the truck. Green oak is a killer on the back. Now at an old(er) age i try to work smart, not hard...try that is!
Whoa! Those plastic pallets look perfect for that! I haven't run across those around here, just wood and they don't last. Brad
Exactly what I do. But if I can lift I do it carefully and am in no rush. Usually avoid lifting my max though and then will split or noodle. Yeah they are pretty handy dandy. I saw a stack of 35 pallets one day while waiting for my order at Wendy's and called up the business machine company. They do faxes, copiers, printers, etc so they get pallets constantly. Turns out they have to pay to get them removed so I removed them gladly for free! I need more though!
Brought a truckload home of black birch and white oak. Tested out the MS660 and MS460. Definitely need to take the rev limiter out on the carb adjustment screws for the 660. I have it opened all the way up on the H screw and it hit 14K rpms today. Gotta richen it up a little there. MS460 was hesitating a little - not smooth - gotta figure that out. But at least I got some wood. The 32" stihl regular weight bar on the 660 was heavy as heck. The Tsumura 28" light bar was great on the 460.
