Honestly, I don't like either option (sick leaker or a Dodge with payments that is 10 years old and probably halfway to being clapped out). If there isn't a plan C, I'd probably put the money in the Ford unless it is in pretty rough shape. For as much trouble as they caused, they aren't bad once you get the oil/cooling/head issues addressed.
Situations like this always require a step back and an honest evaluation of the circumstances. Normally I'd say fix the existing truck for sure. But we are talking about a 6.0 PS here.... Personal vehicle or commercial/business? Do you rely on it for revenue other than transport to/from work? What specific issues have been addressed already? The oil/EGR coolers are well known but the list for the 6.0 is loooong. Typically a lot longer than $4k to really go through one. But davidwyby is in So Cal by the looks of it so it's likely the truck is clean, rust free and will remain so for the rest of it's useful life. Even the best climate won't stop the issues with internal oil/fuel leaks however. Those require a cab-off service and a lot of disassembly. Not something you want to address piece by piece. Here's a 31 minute thrash of literally, everything wrong with the 6.0. If you only watch two minutes of this - 15:00 - 17:00. ".... 200k is good for these, the chassis goes 1M+ but that's on like, 3 engines..." For a little while. Even after dumping thousands into these, they aren't exactly known to be million mile engines in stock trim, let alone tuned. Just not as bad as the 6.4 and not as good as the 7.3 PS (in terms of longevity).

So my 2000 f350 needs up pipes. Anyone have any pros or cons to deleting the ebpv while I have it torn down? Need to pull the turbo for new pedestal orings so figure I'll get rid of a future leak while I'm that far into it.

I also seen vague posts as “fuel system” issues for the BB reason.
I'm curious too. We have a total of 6 that I know of in a town of less than 600 that are down. A lady just got hers deleted for 2200 bucks. Everyone else (as far as I know) still have theirs waiting at the dealers for parts. It sucks when you don't want to void your warranty to get a real diesel, but still need your truck. I'm not getting rid of my 2004 deleted 5.9 cummins for any new diesel. No def fluid for me. I was told they will do everything to NOT have to do the buy-back.

Which ones? The V8 or the new 3.0 I-6? There's been a good number off issues on the 3.0. Ford dropped the 3.0 on the f150, and all the issues on the ram VM motori (go figure). I'm surprised anyone offers a small diesel in a half ton, or any non HD truck. Then again it sounds like Mazda is making inline 6's and at least 1 will be diesel. I like diesels. Back before the EPA killed the simplicity of them.
