After 8 years in the same place and son graduating, my wife and I are moving. It looks like where we are going I will not be burning wood at all. This is about 6-12 months away, we are going to find the right spot that we both agree probably in California.

So here is my question to the group. It does not make sense to keep the number of saws I have. While I will keep up to 3 of them, the rest will need to be sold. I have already gifted a 250 to my brother. What would you guys do to sell a large number of used but strong running saws? sell them all at once or try to do 1 at a time on Facebook/Craigslist?

    Saws-
    Stihl: 025,039,390,026(west germany), 310,280
    Echo: 590x2, 306
    Husq:36, 55,61(white top),350
    Dolmar: 7300

It would be nice to sell all at once as there would be less hassle, but you probably would get more by selling single.

    Good luck on the move.

Good luck , Just looked quick and see you are now located in CT.
Wow , you pick as far away as you could get.

If I had to sell and time was not an issue I would vote for one at a time. Perhaps someone here might be interested.
Personally I am not a big fan of Craigslist , years ago it was not too bad but has gone downhill over time with all the scammers , spam and nut=cases associated with it.
Facebook I do absolutely zero of that so I can't give a response on there.

Best of luck with the move and hope everything works out for you.

Good luck with the move. Are you selling anything other than the saws?

Have you given any thought to listing them here on the classified thread?

Uh, hey Dave? I can relate!

In 2013 I got so tired of the Oregon rain that we bought a place in Arizona. We got tired of the rain that is. And we retired. I laughed and laughed as I sold saws, rain-clothes, corks and axes, "Oregon stuff" and it felt good to get rid of chit & etcetera! I had not one regret - nor should you. I found Craigslist to be a huge help, and often someone would come for one thing and end up with hundreds of dollars worth of something else. I started selling early, took good pictures, wrote clear descriptions, and just kept pairing down the chit. Nowadays Facebook marketplace garners a lot of lookers, but like buzz-saw I'm not a f'booker. I'd say price and sell them individually, but be ready to make a deal with a tree guy who shows up with a wide range of needs. I did a garage sale near the very end, that cleaned up stuff like wheelbarrows, mowers, ladders, etc. It's just as fun to buy the same stuff that same way at your destination, and it's kind of weird too - sell a ladder and buy a ladder later for the same amount - it becomes a wash.

Anyway, in 2016 the grand-babies started being born - yeah, back in Oregon, and no nobody's happy if momma's not happy, right? Yeah that. So we moved back in 2018. And this is not a cautionary tale at all Dave, it all works out. I got a better saw, (a Stihl 461 from a 360) a wood-truck I like enough, and new rain gear and boots....oh well.

Congratulations and enjoy the move, sounds like you've earned it.

I would think you could get more selling them individually. Multiple @ once being much easier.
Wife, kids and I flew to California once. It was an epic journey. The coast line was one of, if not thee, most beautiful place we've ever been. Went to Muir Woods and :jaw:. Hope we can get back some day.

If you’re moving from CT to CA, you sell the white top 61 to me and drop it off on your way by.
    Your welcome :handshake:

I would keel the 026, the 390, and the 7300. Sell the rest individually. The three I selected I think would cover 90% or better of what you’ll need to cut if your not burning wood.

Im in North Haven. How nice is the 026? Possible interest.

One at a time on CL/FBM will bring more money. Hard to sell a bulk lot unless CHEAP.

Use the FHC classifieds. Give us serious firewooders and saw geeks a chance at them

Ah, California. Beautiful state, depending where you'll end up, but with all that's going on there, it's probably the last place I'd move. My wife's from NorCal, and we visit as much as possible. If anything more of our friends/ relatives there are moving out of state. Especially to Nevada.

I agree those should be the saws you keep.

Selling individually will net you the most $. Unless you get syndrome that wants more, but try to have prices for everything you want to sell up front in case you have syndrome interested in other items.

CL and FBM are pretty much the same thing, except that CL isn't as easy to get in touch with sellers/ buyers as FBM is.

And definitely put them on FHC classifieds.

You will hate California, Born and raised there, Finally got out ten years ago. Diesel here where I live is $4.99 per gallon in Southern Utah in April 2022, Diesel where I used to live in Southern California is $6.50 A gallon. Everything else is more expensive there also, DMV Fees are Outrageous, Property Taxes, Utility Prices are ridiculous, Income Taxes are astronomical, Crime is through the roof, You like to Fish or hunt? You have to pay to go to any lake and they are overcrowded with illegal immigrants throwing their baby diapers and trash all over the ground, There are lines are a mile long, I am not joking to launch your boat. Your car will get broken into and when you call the police about it, They will say "What do you want me to do about" I could go on all day. But you will be sorry.

ETA Home prices are also very high.

Thought i would give a bit of an update to my post... so far I have managed to part with 3 of my saws...the old echo 55evl, Jonsered 630, Stihl 039. Struggling with what is next, probably my "loaner saw", i.e. the saw I would let people borrow and not care if it was mistreated.. my Husqvarna 350. I am debating if that should be next or if 1 of my 2 echo 590's.

Smart move. Why risk ruining a good saw?! What is left for sale?

I do not know you so you might fit in with California or not. Either way good luck to you and I hope it works out for ya.

I myself would have a hard time parting with my saws.

I would check to see if you can use a gas chainsaw in California. I don't know the details, but I thought Newsom signed a bill outlawing gas lawn mowers, chainsaws, ect after 2023. I don't do facebook either, but if I want to hork something I ask someone that facebooks to post it for me.
