reference: Handling fire wood I had 2 rows in the 16/17 section of the shed thru summer. Rainy season is starting so it's time to finish filling it. 9th & 10 time I've handled this wood. (birch) Got it 1/2 done yesterday, will try to finish today in the mist/light rain (yuk ) Pics from yesterday's 8 trailer loads to the shed: & the Mts picture:
Looking like you are in a good position and ready for another winter Dave. What are temps in AK now? Sounds like rains are coming, when does the cold/snow start?
Usually snows around Halloween, sometimes holds off until Nov. 55° today, rain now, forecast says up to 64°, but doubtful. August monthly avg is 68°/46° "The Norm" for frost is anytime after Sept 1st .
Sure do like your pictures, Dave. Particularly the mountain view ones. The stacks in that first photo look to go off into infinity. Got yourself a very nice setup there.
63* right now but it's overcast, rainy and a bit of wind so doesn't feel all that warm. Snow? Don't say that word!... Still have another 2-2.5 months or so. Longer the better, winter is too long as is, I never look forward to it!
Yea Didn't fall over & it didn't drift the center space between rows full of snow last winter. A do-0ver. Yea that's another good reason to get it done. Plan is to start CSS'ing & filling the pallets up after moose season
Poor fella, your heating season starts earlier and ends later. I won't fill my covered porch until the end of October. But I will have shoulder wood at the ready in Late Sept. I love your system, no stairs to climb, no wheelbarrows to push fill the trailer and tow it to the woodshed, which is also at ground level. Doesn't get much better than that.
Dave, If you are looking for wood I have that 5 acre site off KGB, also have some wood off Seldon on a land clearing job. I locked into a deal with a couple hundred acre timber sale so I probably won't have much time for the other spots.
Thanks Will check in after moose season. 1st of Oct. Garden, golf & setting up moose camp has me hooked up for the next few weeks then out at camp to hunt. Busted butt to get this done before more rain comes, busy time of the year for me. Ibuprofen for supper tonight
Yeah I here you. Been busy for me too. People wanting firewood for winter waiting until now. I'd like to think it's for next winter, but I doubt it it with 99% of them.
That looks like a LOT of work... what is that, mostly birch? I have some birch, oak, and I think a little ash this year. I'm probably good for 3 cord this year, plus with a pellet insert for the upstairs (which will hopefully keep the electric baseboards off!)
100% birch. It's the best BTU wood in Alaska. Natural Gas heat. But they keep jacking up the price. (a whole other topic )
