I have had a MS 462c-r for a couple years. It’s a true workhorse. I’ve been running an old Husqvarna 261 which is great! I also have a restored husqvarna 140 which I like too.

But I’m finally getting that new pro saw the MS 261c Stihl. I’m having a saw shop set it up with a 20 inch ES light bar, 3/8 0.050 RM chain loops, a new rim drive sprocket, and of course the extra outboard bucking spikes. There will be no doubt I’m cutting in the Pacific Northwest. I’ll put pictures of the new saw when I get it.

Are the husqvarnas broken and the Stihls doing all the work and you wanted a 2nd Stihl that is equally trustworthy?  Congrats on another winner! I’m ready for pics.

Both Husqvarna’s and the Stihl run perfect. The new Stihl will probably be equally great.

Sounds like you’re on the 3 saw plan headed straight for 4. Like a snowball rolling downhill.

C or C-M? Either way, I'm sure you will be happy. Congrats! I just picked up a 261 C-M a month or so ago to get to my 4 saw plan. Yeah, CAD... I'm OK with that though... ;)

I would caution you on going 3/8" .050" with a 20" bar. I gave mine a try with the same bar off my MS500i and it was NOT happy.

Congrats on the new addition. Ive owned my 261 for 2.5 year and its my go to saw for the most part. I run 16" bar and never did double up the dawgs.

Wanna see pics when you get it.

Dstrick you’re really going to like the 261. Only thing I don’t like about mine is I don’t get to use it enough.

buZZsaw BRAD I think you’ll like adding the outer dog. I put mine on when I got it. I think it was only like $12-$14

I added it to mine too. Cheap, easy and functional... Only problem is they are only sold as a kit so you will end up with a spare inner...

I should do it to my 361 too. Maybe bigger ones for the 500i

    That explains it all.
I remember when I "only" had four saws. Seems like a whole other lifetime. I had space under my bench & money in my pocket too.

The Husqvarna 455 ranch recommends 16-24” bar with 3/8” pitch, is 55cc, 3.5 hp.
Also Stihl dealer is building and sending out the door new a 20” bar 3/8” .050 on the MS261. Says about half go out the door this way. We’ll soon find out how well it does in this configuration. My research indicates it will be great. Plus I’ll run it with a 42” bar and .404 chain soon enough. Because PNW after all and what not.

261 won’t do stellar wirh a 20” 3/8 but should still pull and oil it ok. I have a 500i on order but will get a 25” light bar on it.

    I
I run a 28” on a 462 routinely buried and then noodle. I’d think a 25” on a 500i would be no trouble at all. I think the 261 set up will work great around here. Wood is regionally different and saw setups reflect this. And as I mentioned, the dealer sends about half out the door this way.

Fair point on regional wood differences....
