My youngest brother had a tire he couldn’t get to seat so I pulled out the ether & proceeded to tell him how it works & what we doing. He walked about 50’ away & hid around the corner of the shed. Lol. It is getting harder to do with the cut rate ether that they sell now though. Probably the last place I would be trying that would be a dry wheat field in Kansas. Insta-wild fire.

Yup, lights up like gunpowder...as a kid I was riding with my dad on the tractor while he cut wheat straw down...Kuhn rotary mower hit a rock and sparked...turned into a huge fire quickly, even with dumping a fire extinguisher on it before hightailing it to the house to call the FD...they got it put out but not before the heat melted some utility wires along the road...and darkened the neighbors siding...across the road
Some DOT officers have a litmus strip to check air in tires to see if they were seated using this method. Supposedly weakens the sidewalls. Years ago worked at a truck stop running a service truck fixing tires along US 30 in Northern Indiana at night. Utilized this method back then from time to time. But like lukem, will still make you pucker.
That one was pretty violent! Big tire big boom. I've only used the ether or other flammable tire bead setter/ inflator a couple times, and all on small tires.
