a guy called the shop yesterday and told me he cut these standing dead elm down a couple years ago. He drug them a ways down a gravel road so they were a bit hard on chains but other wise it was an awesome & easy score. I figure just over 1/2 cord

That's a bit far for a road trip. A man has to know his limitations.

Wow that is easy. Will you split and burn right away or put in the 3 year rotation? Hows the 266 running these days?

I split and stacked it all at work on Friday. It wasn’t nearly as dry as I thought it would be, but it it’s gonna have to get burned this winter in the shop stove. Unless I come up with a bunch more that is drier.
The same guy flagged me down outside his church this morning and told about a couple more at his place. I’m guessing it will be a pretty similar score.
That 266 is running great although it needs a fresh chain after this.
