9CCE4BB2-6DDC-473B-8F3A-EF89F43E88EE.jpeg My brother-in-law cut a tree down on his property. This is all I have to go on… he doesn’t know what it is (he just moved in) but told me it’s mine next time I go to his place. Said there’s a couple truckloads. I’m afraid you guys might make me feel stupid but I’m not sure what it is.

    Any guesses?

I'm not a real ID expert, but I'd be in the Hickory camp as well. The only reason we'd make ya feel stupid is if you turned down the score.:hair::bug:If that is indeed Hickory you will love it when the time comes to burn it!

Ash as it has a center pith. Great firewood. Get it ASAP and we want pics!

End grain looks like some sort of ash. I thought hickory had darker heartwood but its been forever since Ive cut any.

Hickory will have a ring of dark spots, but I don’t know what it is, or if it’s always in hickory. Bark looks a lot like hickory, but the wood looks too light to be hickory.
Splitting will let you know right away what you got. Ash or Hickory it’s a good score.

    I'd guess ash.
