Hello All I'm looking for the flywheel puller to use on my stihl bg 86. This puller is a flat bar with 2 screws into the flywheel and a center bolt to press on the crankshaft. When I search the ipl for this all I get is the threaded type puller. part # 5910 893 0801

    I use this on Stihl’s
It’s been bullet proof and if it starts to wear out, I’ll spend another $11 to get another.

    edit

Went and looked at what it actually looks like. This thread talks about another method that works too

Removing a Stihl BG86 blower flywheel

That maybe fine to use on stihl chainsaws, however on the stihl bg 86 blower there is not any threads in the flywheel to insert that type of puller. what is needed is a puller with a center bolt on the crankshaft and two bolts threaded into the flywheel

    yup, see my edit.

i do have a puller for Husqvarna that sounds like what you need if the dead blow method doesn’t work. I think I found this looking for a puller for a 2100CD.

I don't think that one will work. The center yoke looks to be too big for this flywheel.

I have pulled flywheels off of all kinds of small motors and have never used a puller. I have always used a hammer, a small round piece of steel that will sit on top of the end of the crankshaft and a pry bar. I have used this method on lawn mowers, string trimmers, blowers. ice augers, and all kinds of chainsaws.
When you tap on the end of the crankshaft it will cause a vibration that will eventually cause the flywheel to come loose and with a little pressure from a pry bar it will lift up.
I have never distorted any threads because I use the flywheel nut and put it even with the end of the crankshaft end. I have never broken any parts with this method.
I am not hitting directly on the end of the crankshaft because that is where the small round piece of steel it sitting.

looks the piece / part you mention above is a long nut, so you can do what Mag Craft is describing.

Could drill some holes in a piece of flat stock and use a nut and bolt?

Thats what I have done, but the long hex knocker that threads onto the crank is what I use mostly.

The puller you are looking for is pretty universal.

    A couple examples:

    Flywheel Puller fits Stihl MS201T, MS261, MS311, MS391, MS361, MS362, MS441 replaces 5910 890 4504

Small Harmonic Balancer/Steering Wheel/Timing Gear pullers are often similar and will work fine.

Pro tip: Don't use the puller to do all the work. Put firm pressure on the flywheel, use a plastic/brass hammer to give the pressure screw a quick rap and the flywheel will literally jump off the shaft.
