I know what ya mean, dave....stuff happens, and before you know it several hours have slipped away. Some plastic wedges really save time with bucking, avoiding pinched bars, etc. Some of those can be mid 20s or lower.
You've turned into a "wood cutting machine " ! Looking good. Making me feel way behind, I'm gonna have to give up a few chores & hobbies so I can find time to get some wood
I think the barkless stuff is pretty dry. I have some like that from last fall that I plan to burn soon as a test. Like I've said, if it only takes a year to get that dry, it'll change my gameplan a little until I get back on the "3 year plan". It'll help, and there's a lot of it over there. I can go ahead and get a bunch of fresh stuff first, then still have plenty of time to get the down/dead since it'll dry in a timeframe more like soft Maple. Dennis, yep, I've been talking about getting over there (and have a little) for at least 2 years, but now that she's moved up here, it seems easier. She's come out to the woods and helped some. There's about 5 acres (guessing) out of the 10 she has that's woods....Oak and Maple for the most part. Next up is to get her on the 3 year plan. I'm gonna' make sure that when she gets a new stove, she has to try burning water in it first. Then, we'll use the dry stuff.Maybe I'll do the opposite. Dunno yet. Should open her eyes...........I hope.
The "wood cutting machine" is what got stuck in the tree. There's the problem. Everything else has taken a back seat to cutting wood. There's only so much time and energy to go around. I feel the same way when I see your trailer loaded with Birch......over and over.Gets me motivated to get moving. damm the ticks, full speed ahead.
Seems like I did a fresh split on one last year and the MC was 16%, so yeah, I think they'll be gooder to go pretty quick.
Looks great! I need to find some of that oak. The last Oak I got was in huge fresh cut rounds that will need a few years. This will be my first year burning and I'm getting a lot of ash from my father in law that has been split for years. I haven't used it yet but I'm already learning to appreciate it.
Barkless is good, and a lot depends on the size of the tree as well. We were cutting behind my wife's cousin's today and cut a 6" dead Red oak that still had a lot of small branches and twigs, and the bark was still on, but it was about 18%.
Went over today and got some smaller branch wood from the big Oak, and cut up one of the small Oaks the big one was resting on. Didn't quite fill the small trailer, but at least I made a trip. Mom had another heart attack (myocardial infarction, to be more precise) last Wed., so woodcutting has taken a backseat for a few days. I have to go in to have a hernia repaired on Friday, and that'll put me out of commission for a minute too. I'm waiting for the 3rd thing to hit......don't things like this come in 3s? Mom's still in the hospital (Munson in T.C.), and may come home one day this week. I'll be back in the woods ASAP, but the weather needs to cooperate a little more. Also got a bunch of stuff split yesterday, but not stacked yet. I'll get a pic in a bit.
Whoa Dave, that is not good news. Hope both of you get fixed up quickly. And TC is no short drive for you to go visit. Hopefully you are going to Gaylord or Alpena to fix the hernia as that is not quite so far. At least you got a nice small load of some great firewood.
Only been over to see her once, but I call every day and have a talk. When I was there, she was pretty groggy, but the last 2 days she sounds better. Mine's just an outpatient thing, so shouldn't be a big deal.
I hope Mom is feeling better and you better not push it after the hernia operation. Nice work on the Oak.
Doc said I'll be back to "normal activities" in 3 days. I don't think he understands our "normal activity".
Prayers to mum for a speedy recovery. .....and you are turning into a wood cutting machine! Wanna job on my crew? Lol.....
Worst part when I got the hernia operation wasn't the hernia itself healing it was the path that the scope went through to get to it. That took a while to heal up for me.
No. You work too much. If we were closer, I might consider it. Thanks for the comments about Mom. Still don't know when she's getting released. Paul, like my wife said......I should plan to be out of the loop for a couple weeks or so. That sucks, but I still have time to get in the woods.
Forgot to answer Dennis, but yep, I'll be going to Alpena VERY early Friday morning. Hope to be home before noon. Didn't have much energy today, but went out to get a pic I promised and ended up doing a little bit of splitting of the smaller Oak rounds. Still have about 12-14 larger ones to do. Had a few short rounds that I turned into kindling...that's the stuff on the trailer rail.
Best of luck for your Mom PD, and I think you'll be just fine even if you have to stay out of the woods for a while....it'll be cooler that way.
More oak for heat down the road Best of luck with your tune up there Dave hope your mother gets out soon
