Felt good to be doing something firewood and the weather was ideal, mid 50s and light breeze and mostly light over cast. The wood is almost all elm that has been sitting in the rounds, not sure how long, some going on 3 years maybe. What’s not elm I’m thinking now is locust (black??)- The 2 splits laying on the splitter. Maybe 2 dozen pieces in the new storage thingy. I think that structure would be offended if it heard somebody calling out “nice rack!” No, I think it’s the beginnings of a nice wood shed. I’m impressed how you’re able to envision such a thing from a pile of pallets too. That seems to be the path of least resistance, especially in these times when lumber is outrageous. Looks great, seriously As for the two splits on the splitter, it doesn’t look like any locust I’ve seen. No idea what it could be otherwise. Nothing I’ve scrounged anyway.
I will call it a wood rack for now. Once the roof is on then I will go with a wood shed. I think you did a great job with the pallets.
That's a good looking construct for sure! I love re purposing things instead of the throw away & buy new mentality.
Nice rack. It should hold a nice stack of wood. Stacked well it should look like a nice stack on a rack. A rack with a roof should keep a well stacked supply of wood nice and dry.
How about calling it a “Wood Shack”. The name being a combo of rACK and Shed. Whatever you call it - nice work… Gpsfool
Very cool. I suspended working in the shop, woodworking, to start processing wood. One of the problems I need to answer is how I am going to stack the wood in the back. I came across a similar build to this that is one pallet wide with 2 sides and some boards across the back. When it came time to move the wood, I would be able to pick the pallet up with the tractor and forks to move it out front and load the rack there. I'll share a picture next weekend when I start putting them together. Jason from RI

Yours is probably in better condition. This one is not bad cosmetically for its age except the seat. I put an aftermarket carb on it this summer and that made a huge improvement, but a couple weeks ago I was trying to drag a small harrow around in my back yard overhaul project, it didn’t like that at all. Needs tires and another battery. Mostly use it to move the splitter, and spray weeds. And it’s not really excited about the weed spraying, air cooled engine and slow with a load. Been watching for some used tires for it, I can’t hardly justify $500 for tires on something so old and tired. But it still gets the job done mostly, except harrowing.
I just looked online a little bit, but basically around $100 a copy and then some freight. So $500 might be a bit high for a set of 4 but not much. I don’t need anything fancy just something that will hold air. Mine aren’t worn out just aged and cracked. If anyone knows of something cheaper, I’m listening. can tubes be put in them?
I would think you could get some chengchin knobbies (generic knobby tire) for less, but hey, I'm 15 years removed from the bike shop now...as far as tubes, yes. They can be a bit of a PITA if the bike is ridden by "Ricky racer", but for what you describe using it for, it should be fine.
Lol. Mine looks like it fell off the back of a pick up at 20 mph. . The front and rear racks are all dented up. It was like that when I bought it. I added bigger and newer alloys ( takeoffs) from a newer kawi. Mine needed tires too, and a set of the takeoffs were only $100. I have an aftermarket carb on mine too. From a Honda, and it's a little bigger. The biggest issue is the seals for the rear output shaft from the engine/ tranny housing. They used to leak, and now they don't even hold the oil, so that has been a back burner project. Especially since my buddy broke it all the way. I'm hoping he just gets bored and fixes it. I've got a much newer sportsman 500HO so it's not really a big deal, but it'd be nice to have a second quad.
Yeah, that are pricey now. I priced new for the bayou, and the stock wheels are an odd size. Might as well do what I did and go up to the next diameter wheel. The cheapest rims and tires, new, were around that figure, and that was even a couple years back.
