No, too busy with trees......we had plans on building our big shop this past summer but covod ruined that with the prices of materials, possibly next spring, and once we get the shop the Willys will become a priority...if they don't outlaw gasoline vehicles by then....
Yeah one of those “oh what a feeling thingies”. Could never lower my standards to buying foreign vehicles. Let my daughter buy a VW and found out why they are known as hitlers revenge machines. That’s long gone and she went back to GM. Plus I don’t fit too good in those little compact cars at 6’5”.
My coworker had one...I think he gave $100 for it...ran on 3 cylinders at first, but after changing a fouled plug it ran on all 4...but smoked like crazy...it would leave a light blue smoke trail the whole way down the road...he finally tired of changing fouled plugs on that cylinder and put one of those JCWhitney "nonfoulers" on it...I'll be danged if that didn't help some! He ran that thing to work for years...most of that time with no muffler...he lived down the road from me and you could always hear him coming...if I was downstairs loading the furnace with wood before work in the morning and I heard him go by, I knew it was time to get ta gettin! He finally got rid of it (gave it away I think) but not until after giving it to his daughter for her first car...I only seen her drive it once
I had 2 jetta diesels. The '99 had 200,000 miles on it when i traded it to a coworker and an '06 that finally died from lack of (really expensive) engine maintenance at 230,000. Both great cars that got 50+ mpg and only ever had regular wear items replaced. That said, i wouldn't buy another jetta now that they're made (cheaper) in the usa to compete with the corolla. They no longer have the smooth and quiet ride and handling of the earlier German made jettas
Bought my '03 in '10 and its at 190k something. Cost of ownership has been crazy low! Unbelievably reliable vehicle. I'd recommend one in a heartbeat. Our 02 Accord is @ 256k. Darn thing just won't die (knocking on wood right now). It's had a 1-2 shift issue for probably 150k of those.
I used to own a corolla. The night before I bought it (from a private party) I lost a lot of sleep. Mainly due to the fact that it was a "foreign" vehicle and I had never owned one up to that point. Even lost a lot of sleep over the agreement to buy it. It had 42 K on it. I traded it in years later with 287K on it and it was still running strong! I traded that in for a RAV 4 and that thing was also flawless, dependable, reliable, no problems at all! Yeah, I never looked back on that decision. Ever! I have since traded that rav4 in for a chevy truck and picked it up at a great time as the prices for used vehicles sky-rocketed shortly after. So far so good with the chevy truck....but I am not expecting the body or engine to last as long as either of those Toyotas. If toyotas line of full size truck had better MPG, I would have gotten one of them. 2 cents.
I did pick up a civic for MPG and so far that thing has been phenomenal. I always average in the low 40's for mpg. Most often right around 42. If I buy the corn free version of gasoline, I'm easily into mid 40's for mpg. 2 more cents.
